^Plus part of a traffic lane, so it's not just pedestrians affected here, FYI.

FPA is more than wide enough to lose a lane in each direction…permanently.

So this thing is basically under construction, and we still don't have any renderings?  Come on, guys; you're disappointing me.

^ Under construction is a big stretch right now.  They’ve cordoned the site off but there’s been no real construction activity yet based on the webcams.

It is weird we haven’t seen renderings yet tho…and the website Chris originally linked in is still down.  Odd.

Edit: Never mind, appears that link is working again. Still just a massing study though…

It’s the Lawrence group as architects
And if BJC think the new neurosciences building design is the bees knees, then we’re well-positioned for another under-whelming,‘better than a parking lot’, blob.

Please prove me wrong 🙏🏽

^ Well BJC didn’t design the new Neuroscience building and I’m almost sure they’re not behind this one either since they’re both Washington University buildings.

Yeah I know to those who are more familiar with them the two are distinctly separate. To me though they seem like two sides of the same coin. Replace Bjc with wash u in my comment if you must…

^ No argument there. Two sides of the same coin is exactly how I’d describe BJC/WU, at least as a patient…

But I also spent 13 years in a different city, 11 of them in a neighborhood with a large hospital (second best in Missouri btw) 3 blocks from my building. And the land use, development and planning around that complex was some of the worst I’ve ever seen. BJC/WU doesn’t get everything perfect…but it’s also not St. Luke’s on the Plaza. Still, just my opinion.

Having worked for one in a position that required me to work with both + STLCOP, I can tell you they might be the same to the general public but on the inside it’s very different and there is a lot of bickering. Especially about parking and who should pay for garages

You sure? I would think Perkins Eastman is doing the bulk of the design, since they are much larger and more experienced, especially in buildings like this.  I'd guess Larry Group will probably do some interior design or some related consulting.  They always have to throw a bone to a local.

Lawrence group as architect was what the above posted link listed.

I know it mentioned Perkins Eastman as architect as well, as I was surprised by their involvement.  I don't think they've ever done anything on the BJC/WUSM campus before.  But I can't validate it, as the link no longer works...

You can't validate because it isn't true.  Healthcare is one of their largest practice areas.

I think it is fascinating we don't have like a real rendering for this

What isn't true?  That Perkins Eastman is involved in this project, that they haven't done design work on the med campus before, or both?

And we finally have our rendering.

The STL Today article:
Washington U. to open 659,000-square-foot cancer center in Central West End

Architects are Perkins Eastman and Lawrence Group

Doesn't look bad.

Would have looked better with ground floor retail, but we've already hashed that out.

Looks pretty darn good to me. Love the modern aesthetic.

Lack of trees along forest park avenue is telling.
Otherwise the design looks more polished than the neuroscience building.

Would also agree with the lack of trees, though that’s an easy fix…presumably.

Outside of that, this looks pretty great I think. Definitely better looking than a lot of the other buildings on campus.
