That has to be the first use of "overdeveloped" and "St. Louis" in the same sentence since the turn of the century
OMG Clara was open at Delmar today!
The horror!

It was weird living at 605 Clara a couple years ago. Clara blocks off to keep the people north of Delmar from coming in, and Washington and Kingsbury Pl were blocked off to keep people on Clara out. At least DeBaliviere had pedestrian access, but it was just such an unnecessarily blocked off street. I remember one day some fire trucks had the misfortune of coming up my street and it took them over an hour to turn around.

^^We also lived in 605 Clara a few years ago. Every now and then there would be a mini traffic jam down by the gate as multiple cars tried to turn around using the alley behind the church. Especially delivery drivers whose GPS led them astray.

The Ever Given is a quarter mile long, so, running parallel to Debaliviere, it would actually stretch from Pershing to the base of the radio antenna, i.e. nearly to Delmar.

^Okay, well bloody done. There've been ten thousand of these, but that's the first one that really made me laugh.
(The one with the Joy 99 sticker caused me splitting headaches and deeply uncharitable thoughts about the people that decided to kill my favorite radio station. I do seriously hate me some Joy 99. But it's not really a laughing matter.)

I'm really only aware of the RFT assertion that people with the JOY 99.1 FM stickers are horrible drivers so I assume that's the origin.
Joy 99.1 FM Stickers: Scourge of the St. Louis Roadways
Joy 99.1 FM Driver Throws in the Towel, Sells Hopelessly Battered Vehicle
The Loop Trolley Has Already Earned a Joy 99.1 FM Sticker

It's a huge thing in the STL Reddit, plausible that RFT is the origin.

I think Black02AltimaSE and kipfilet both have the reasons for the Joy 99 memes. As to my own distaste, I'm still bitter at MOst Holy Synod for selling 99.1 to them, as Classic 99 was my favorite radio station in the history of ever. (And it was profitable and popular, but not "doctrinally correct.")quincunx wrote: ↑Mar 29, 2021I didn't get the Joy 99 one. Can you explain it?

I think the Joy FM sticker reputation doesn't represent bad drivers as much as it represents selfish drivers. Similar to how the after church crowd at restaurants on Sundays are known to be the rudest, most entitled, and the worst tippers.

Ehh, I'd say that it represents bad drivers. Especially cars that have multiple stickers. If you ever see one with 10+ stickers out driving, just reroute and get as much distance as you can. (Half joking here, but I will also say I have family who lives out of state and this is a meme that even they know of).

^ wait, so are the Joy FM stickers like the kill counts on the noses of WW2 fighter planes?
There is an alley on the other side of Clara but not behind this lot
I’m guessing the alley used to exist but was allowed to be cannibalized by nearby private property. Fast forward 40 years and now everyone needs to have a garage entrance and curb cuts off the Main Streets.
Lesson : Small missteps today will have far reaching impacts on future urban design ( unless of course if I am wrong about an alley being there originally

^I'm trying to figured that out. I'm guessing it's closer to the line of the apartment building immediately to the west at 5636. I can't find the dimension for the setback on the site plan in the agenda, but it's clearly a lot less than 5600 Waterman's 24'. A quick G-maps "survey" seems to indicate that 5636 is probably no more than 20' back from the sidewalk. which might be about right. And since there's some variation on the street anyway, particularly between the larger apartments right around the intersections, maybe they're within the ballpark.
Edit: The building seems to directly abut the rear property line and they give it's depth as 66'6". They show the property depth as 90', which leaves a setback of 23'6". So . . . it might actually be within the 10% required by the ordinance unless they're lying about the adjacent property. (And even if they are, the variation in rhythm immediately to the west might make it a moot point.)
