From today's Post-Dispatch, a former New York fashion executive plans to build an apparel factory somewhere in the vicinity around Washington Avenue.

Would be a huge addition to the current effort underway to bring back the Garment District.
Some background on that:  https://www.stltoday.com/business/local ... b6a41.html

Very cool but I'm confused. They would build a new factory from the ground up and have it ready by next year??

Would be a good fit for Butler Brothers... although not on Washington, would this area really be the best for trying to jumpstart the fashion incubator even further? Or around Washington and 18th? Feels a bit off denser incubator strip, right?

I hope this factory interacts with the street, windows and a small store for people to buy brand new products from. I know factories have changed a lot recently but I really do hope that this doesn't become an eyesore.

I wonder what happened with this. Anyone have insight?

The company is having a launch party in the next few weeks.  It will be located in Grand Center District.

I didn’t hear that. Have any other information regarding it?

Join fashion industry veterans and innovators Jon Lewis and John Elmuccio as they announce the launch of an advanced apparel manufacturing facility in St. Louis, Missouri.

May 16th @ 11 am.  3830 Washington Blvd.  Krantzberg ended up being the big investor, thus they moved further west than the apparel district.  Could become a very significant on-shoring manufacturing company for St. Louis.

That's this building in Grand Center, a half block west of the Contemporary Art Museum. It's been vacant for a while now, so it's good to see it come back to life. Should be a good location for hosting fashion events as well.

They had some kind of grand opening today, attended by lots of folks and at least two news crews.

KSDK parked their stupid news van in the one available handicapped space!

Here is a little write-up from the Partnership about this project.  All in all, this really seems to have some legs.
We’re also generating interest at C-levels in the industry, including Fortune 500 companies who see what’s evolving in St. Louis as a story that has national, if not international, significance,” said Jon Lewis, Executive Manager for Evolution St. Louis.  Evolution St. Louis will work with major brands, boutique designers and emerging, direct-to-consumer fashion entrepreneurs to help them move some of the production of their products back to the United States, and work with emerging brands and designers that often have difficulty sourcing overseas because they don’t have the ability to scale.

Edit:  If there's a mod floating around maybe re-title this to "Evolution St. Louis" as that seems to be the name their running with.

^Also, it's in Midtown (Grand Center), not Downtown.

^ Correct, it had originally been proposed for Downtown West until Krantzberg got involved...then it moved west a bit.  A title change is probably necessary at this point.

Here's a recent pic. I'm not a fan of painting brick, but it did clean-up nicely (construction seems to be wrapping up).

Cool article and I wish them success. Although when an entrepreneur is asked why they believe they can generate billions in revenue and responds with "the industry $X big," I tend to become sleptical.
