The Chinese place was my go to for Chinese but I spend about 450 hours a year at that CF and it's cracking at the seams

Do you mean Emporer's Wok?

maybe 50s-60s but that main building was there when it was built in 1939

I believe this is from the late 30's- early 40s... No idea that JCP has been there since the beginning.

I first started working out at Club Fitness about 5 or 6 years ago. The crowd has grown considerably. I'd welcome some expansion. I try to go workout between 5:30am-7am now because it seems to be the least crowded time, though there is still a wait for some equipment. Maybe if they expand they can splurge a little on a second water fountain...or more signs promoting putting the free weights back on the racks.

I remember when the current cardio room wasn't part of CF and everything was jammed in that first room.

Me too. It still wasn't as crowded/busy as it seems to be today.

Its a mad house in there from 4-8pm nightly in Jan-Feb and mid march...then the new years resolutionist quit. after that its fine most of the year

Wednesday at the board of adjustment, Desco had a hearing to build a commercial building at Hampton village. I was off this week so idk what they’re planning but I’m guessing it’s on the western side (closer to Hampton)

Ross is opening at the JC Penney spot
and a brand new branch of Chase bank will be built at schnucks parking lot on the western side of it facing Hampton

I hope the Chase Bank Branch has some windows and a door along Hampton. Either way, it’s nice to see Hampton Village getting some love with new tenants.

Doubt it. It'd be great if pedestrians were well accommodated there, but I won't get my hopes up.

Ross's doesn't seem like a good trade for Penny's if you asked me. Oh well.

Is this the first Chase in the city?

I don't think we will be seeing any new department stores opening for a while, if ever. Ross is at least a pretty sustainable business model. It blows me away that the city doesn't already have a TJMaxx or Marshalls. These stores tend to thrive in recessions so I wouldn't be surprised to see them pop up relatively soon.

Would be good candidates to fill part of an abandoned Shop-n-Save or two (Looking at you Gravois Plaza and Southtown Centre.) Lindell Marketplace would be a decent spot too if a vacancy appears (Office Max?)

^Oh, I hear you. But I'm thinking in comparison to the Penny's that had been in that space for decades. I understood they only closed because they lost the lease. Which made me believe the owner (Schnucks?) had something that paid better in mind, which you would think would be something that generates more traffic. Something more desirable. Ross's doesn't strike me as that something. Could be a matter of taste, but I've not been terribly impressed with Ross's.

Got the answer today, it will be Five Below. Signs up along Hampton and Chippewa for it. So new tenants for Hampton Village are...

1. Chase Bank - to be built on parking lot
2. Ross - old JCPenney
3. Five Below - old Famous Footwear

J.C. Penney is also on the verge of bankruptcy. Looks like their long-term picture is pretty bleak...

Is Five Below taking up both the old Famous Footwear and Lane Bryant footprints? I noticed that the old Lane Bryant has some work going on inside, but there's still a wall separating the two. Anyone have any insight on this?

Update: The answer is yes. Glad that's happening. The former Lane Bryant space has been empty for a few years now. 

Did Chase Bank drop out of Hampton Village? The sign has been gone for some time now.
