It's gotten to the point that I'm relieved when I see offenders getting arrested in jurisdictions other than the city because at least I am confident that they will be prosecuted and taken off the street. I voted for Kim Gardner but that was a huge mistake. She has to go.

Was curious about the STL city body count. Looks like we are sitting at 16 murders so far. Actually pretty decent considering the ridiculous start we got off to this year.

Not StL, but 25 people were shot in Chicago over the weekend including 11 kids. Idk, but I think we might have a gun problem.

Why are using at an outlier as point against which to measure? I can do it too, just watch. In 2016 Chicago homicides were up 45% from 2013. Yay, numbers are fun.

2013-2016 is the outliner. The trend in Chicago has been going down towards since the 1990s.

No its not. The outliers have been 2016-2018.

Um, yeah that's been my contention the whole time and its the reason why you're "homicides dropped 40% in Chicago" is at best disingenuous.

17 shot and 4 dead this weekend (so far).  Seems like the warm weather brings out the worst in people.  I was really hoping that our murder numbers would be do this year due to Covid, but the article states that we seem to be around the same number we were at last year.

In the last 2 days, 3 pawn shops have been robbed.

Prior to last night's rioting, Southside Pawn on Gravois was hit, noteworthy for the confirmed theft of 34 semiautomatic weapons (32 handguns, 2 rifles), and done in a manner that ATFE & local detectives consider professional (10 thieves, 3 cars).

Last night, amidst the looting, there were two pawn shops hit: Lee's Pawn & Jewelry on MLK (RIP Chief Dorn) and Bel-Aire Pawn Shop on South Broadway, which had its front doors bashed in.

Amidst the chaos of the rioting and looting, we have a string of pawn shop robberies; possibly coordinated; with thieves perhaps proactively seeking large volumes of semiautomatic weapons; and willing to kill.

^Thank you for that, GC. Good to see a little perspective. If there's any one takeaway from the good reporting it would seem that robbers and extremists are using the demonstrations, particularly the angrier ones, as cover to carry out an entirely separate and often quite contrary agenda.

The person that shot David Dorn dead in cold blood for no reason must be brought to justice.

You want people to stop being pissed off about a senseless murder so they can then get pissed off about a senseless murder?

he just cant help himself-  outrage is literally all over the place about the this murder.  few people on here have this bizarre insecurity and i cant figure out why, its so weird like its not hard to admit that black people have been seen as 2nd class citizens since the existence of america. that doesn't take away anything from you as a white person. I would know i came here with nothing and worked my ass off as did my parents but we aren't are naive not to see that the color of our skin didn't remove hurdles, we still ran the 100 yard dash but didnt have to jump every 10 yards

The overall trend of homicides in Chicago has been going down over the past 30 years. There was a huge spike in 2016, but it has quickly come back down since then. It's still not great, but it's nowhere near as bad as it was in the early 1990s. And, on a per capita basis, it's still doing way, way better than St. Louis (our 2018 homicide rate was nearly triple theirs).
