It is a simple 1%.  Make 600.00? 6.00 in tax.  Make 60,000.00? 600.00 in Tax.

You pay the tax is you live in the city (regardless of where you work) or if you work in the city (regardless of where you live).  Many cities have this tax.

Form is on the city's web site

Let's get back on topic here.  This thread isn't about the earnings tax.  For what its worth, my comment (and I think DBs) too, was in relation to our respective employers, not the tax itself.  I understand how the tax works and how to pay it.

In terms of getting this thread back on topic, where are things with Cortex exactly?
  • Aloft Hotel is wrapping up construction
  • 4340 Duncan (old printing plant) is wrapping up construction, or maybe completed?
  • Waiting for more details and official announcement of a WUSM Neuroscience Building @ Newstead & Duncan
  • Waiting for official groundbreaking of 4210 Duncan "Crawler" Building and garage, while site prep has started.
  • Anything/everything else (excluding Chroma 2.0 which isn't really in Cortex) basically up in the air and undetermined at this point?

All the drilling rigs on site show just how much the Crawler building is gonna be visible from Forest Park Blvd. heading west. It's really going to stand out and catch the eye.

Look at the silos on the grain elevator across the street.  The east face of this building should be nearly that tall.

This is a good opportunity for Elek.Borrelli to do one of their mock-up illustrations of what the Crawler will look like from Forest Park
Blvd.

I don't think a construction permit has been issued yet for the building.

That's quite the presence it'll have.

Apparently in December Vicia closed for lunch and is now only open 3pm to 9:30pm 5 days a week (closed Sunday and Monday). How can a primer location in the district be allowed to be closed for lunch?!!

From what I read it was to "focus on their lunch and re-opening" of Winslow's Table (nee Home). Disappointing as it was by far my favorite lunch spot, and a good deal less expensive than their dinner (which is still great).

I hope it returns some day, and brings along with it weekend hours for Park Ave. Coffee and Lion's Choice.

Does anyone know how Chocolate Pig is doing? We went shortly after they opened and weren't impressed.

Some additional details on the neuroscience building went out to tenants in the Crescent Building next door (who are losing their parking as a result of the project).  10-story building with a 9-story parking garage.

The planned 10-storey Neuroscience building will occupy the north 1/3 of the current parking lot and will extend along Duncan from the corner of Duncan and Newstead to within about 40’ of our west perimeter fence. Behind the building will be a 9-storey parking deck which will occupy the remaining 2/3 of the current parking lot and will have entrances off Newstead and Duncan (the Duncan entrance will be just east of the Neuroscience building and just west of our west perimeter fence. During construction a 12-storey tower crane will be erected in the SE corner of the existing parking lot. This will have a boom that extends out over Duncan or Newstead but they are forbidden from extending loads out over the streets (picture a grand piano crashing from the sky as you cross the street)

As part of the construction, a 20’ wide access road will be constructed around the site and it will extend down the west side of our building from Duncan (on the grassy area to the west of us) south to the railroad tracks and then west to Newstead. All those new trees planted along the west side of the building will need to be taken out and either relocated or dumped (ideas on their reuse?). Following construction this temporary roadway will become a walking / bike path and will connect to the rest of the Cortex greenway. Construction of this easement roadway could begin as early as the first week of March when we’ll have a Hi-Lift bulldozer running up and down there while vibration measurements are collected for the project. Having a bulldozer running back and forth that close to our building should simulate the maximum levels of vibration we’ll feel. Any vibration we feel will likely be from heavy equipment such as bulldozers and dump trucks running back and forth; there will be no pile-driving and very little jack hammering.

Completion of the project is scheduled for June 2023 and I anticipate this is the earliest we would have access to the new parking deck. From this new parking structure, we will have easy access to our building, either out the north side on to Duncan, or out the east side with a  short walk across to the building.

Which bottle of champagne do we pop for finally getting residential in Cortex?

$60m, 262 apartments, 6 stories. Surface lots at corner of Boyle and Duncan

^ Fantastic!!  I’m not much of a champagne drinker but I’ll have a few celebratory shots of whiskey!

As for the project itself, this is a great start.  Really like the location too.  Filling this lot in and then WU building their new neuroscience building down the street should really fill things in a bit more on the western edge of Cortex. Exciting stuff.
