I'm betting on a Shark Bar, Mosaic or Marquee Lounge Cordish concept in BPV2. A Brooklyn Bowl or Punch Bowl Social type concept would also be a winner.
These types of additions would make BPV a destination for the non-sports crowd, bump up winter business and maximize revenue in the late-night segment (mainstream sports concepts don't rock until 3am). Targeting an upscale Millennial crowd meshes with the coming residential and will put even more hurt on Washington Avenue in particular. As a guy who pioneered the early Wash Ave. scene nearly 30 years ago starting in 1988 (1227, Evolution and Velvet) it pains me to say this, but traditional retail makes the most sense for the street today. Especially with the influx of residential.
St. Louis has too many entertainment districts. Landing, BPV, Wash Ave., Grove, CWE, South Grand, Loop and Cherokee cannibalize one another and dilute what should be 2-3 dynamic districts by spreading out the patrons. Honestly, there are way more entertainment districts with close proximity in STL than up here and the density to support 8 districts does not exist.

I wouldn't necessarily call every commercial street an "entertainment district". They weren't considered "entertainment districts" historically (compare to Gaslight Square, for example). And the reinvigorated commercial streets in the Grove and on Cherokee are largely responsible for repopulating the surrounding neighborhoods. Granted, Manchester *was* primarily a bar destination for many years but that's changing with the addition of more residential and various types of commercial. I mean, go to any healthy neighborhood in any healthy city and you're going to find local commercial districts. People would rather walk to their corner brunch place or coffee shop on Sunday morning than drive half-way across the city.STLinCHI wrote: ↑Dec 17, 2017St. Louis has too many entertainment districts. Agreed. Though it would be nice to have A central spot for nightlife, I think the commercial districts are unique.
It's not like these places are doing "bad" by any means. grove is booming; loop and Cherokee are growing. BPV is new. Laclede and Wash Ave are just transforming into mixed use destinations.
IMO, the neighborhood centric development is something we hold over other midwestern cities. Even the revival of Stl seems to bleed neighborhood to neighborhood rather than East to West; north to South...etc.

Rendering shows a little more detail for the millennium hotel than the rest of the building. It also has a sign, that doesn’t say millennium. Cards/Cordish might know something.

I guess Arnold Imaging (who made the video and Renderings for Cordish and the Cardinals) did not have a Millennium Hotel 3D model but had one of the Westin Peachtree. I think that is what it is. No way Westin would put a location 4 blocks away from its current location.addxb2 wrote:Rendering shows a little more detail for the millennium hotel than the rest of the building. ^That's my guess as well; as soon as I saw that picture, I thought that it looked suspiciously like the Westin in Atlanta (the tell is the circular elevator shaft that's attached to the side of the building).
Good catch guys.
I like the all glass look and I wish it were reclad with something a bit more modern. Of course we have to get it open first...

Interesting find. Between Ballpark Village and the Arch Grounds improvements, it is kind of surprising that someone hasn't proposed something for the Millennium property -- Condos, Apartments, Hotel, or a business. Wouldn't someone want their company name showing up in every photo of downtown skyline?
RE Millennium / Stouffer's: From my understanding, the owner is a Dallas based company and they're just sitting on it. I have a small obsession with that building so if anyone else has any further information on it, we should jump over to that thread and get it going for a bit.
A second lattice boom crane has been erected on the apartment tower site with a pile driver being assembled. Drilling has started on the office/hotel site.
It's going to be nice seeing the cranes in the background of the sports highlights all season.

They're owned by the greater DeWitt family, right? IIRC, it's the brother of Bill Jr. (the elder of the two Cardinals DeWitt's)?
So that would certainly make sense.
would love to see a CVS in bpv
been out of STL for the last 2 months any pics of construction yet?

This was taken yesterday. Only the tower is being worked on for now it appears.True_dope wrote:would love to see a CVS in bpv

^The only permit they have for the moment is for the apartment tower. The drilling on the hotel/office site was for test purposes only. They almost got a stop work order for doing anything there.

I'm hopeful that we may see a construction cam get installed sometime soon. This one will be fun to watch once steel actually starts rising.
Not much different except the red fencing between the construction areas and the shrunken (!) parking lot.

Can't wait for this to fill out. Christ it will be nice to see.

I cannot wait for opening day, that construction is going to look GOOD on TV.
Permit for "FOUNDATION ONLY/HOTEL AND OFFICE BLDG PER PLANS" valued at $3,852,546.00 was issued on 1/4/2018. Foundation permits are now open for both sites at BPV 2.

Passed by BPV this afternoon. Lots of activity and people working on the Hotel/Office site. Literally not a single person working on the Tower site. I am sure it's insignificant but stood out to me.
