Years and years ago I worked a show in what Grand Center called their Cabaret Series. (They probably have a different name for it now, if they even still hold it, since the word no longer really means vocal jazz lounge acts in the way it perhaps once did.) Anyway . . . the singer made a crack about loving to play here because even the grocery stores were called Schnucks. She found that quite jazzy. Can't recall who the singer was anymore.

Is the next Engineering building still happening or have they decided to stop with the current addition?

^The McKelvey Building has already been announced, which will add to the current engineering quad.

Believe that's McKelvey Hall. It's happening. Design work has just begun.

Construction begins in earnest May 22. Expected completion is just in time for commencement 2019. Will include:
  • Jubel Hall (Engineering)
  • Weil Hall (Arts)
  • Sumers Welcome Center (admissions)
  • Schnuck Pavillion (will include a dining hall)
  • Kemper Art Museum expansion
  • 2 level underground parking garage (convertible to useable space should car use decline in the future, naming rights still available )
  • Tisch Park (redo of the central green leading up to Brookings Hall including replacement of the allée trees)
Construction of McKelvey Hall (Engineering) will not begin until 2018 and will not be complete until 2020 since it did not come into being until early this year.

Now i know how the Ents felt when they saw the Orcs cutting down trees for their war machine.

Some of the trees are being pulled out nearly whole, and will be integrated into part of the landscaping elsewhere on campus. They'll be left to rot naturally, and some of the root systems below ground are being exposed. I believe the art department is directing the project. I saw some pretty cool pics on Facebook, but I don't think I can share them here.

Wow. Yeah. Never thought I'd see that in my lifetime. Last time there was an eastward view like that from the steps might not have been long after the world's fair.

Some nice CWE/BJC skyline peaking through there.

This really is a big transformation. It's gonna be beautiful when it's done.

I believe you. I really do. But I will miss the trees for a very long time indeed. :(

Yep, those god-awful parking lots at the front steps looked extremely trashy and hurt the schools image, IMO.

Replacing them with new buildings and landscaping is really going to elevate the on-campus experience.

Worsening bus service is regrettable.

I wonder if any cranes will be put up here for this. 2 or 3 would be great!

I've been wondering... with all that digging going on, I wonder if the construction crews will unearth any relics from the World's Fair/Olympics? How can they NOT find some interesting artifacts there?
