Late 2017- early 2018 opening. No idea why it's taking 4 years from funding to completion

That better be an extravagant train platform. Not sure why construction would take more than a year.

Yeah, I will be especially impatient with this one, since it would be the closest Metrolink stop to where I currently live if completed.

Can't they just build a quick temporary platform out of plywood for this summer? :D

Randy- it is and that's the problem. No idea why they have to do the bells and whistles now. Build the bones (station) and add the meat later

^ Does that mean they will have a train canopy platform that actually covers the whole platform?

I'd rather it take a little longer and get the promised amenities. This town has a terrible history of never getting the promised Phase Two of ANY project.

The third track west of Sarah is gone.

Was it ever used recently? I didn't get why they had to include it when they replaced the Vandeventer bridge and redid the grand station. Did property owner's have access rights that needed to be maintained?

^My guess is that the grain elevator still used it occasionally for rail car shipments. There was a spur or two off of the third track that had access to the old US Metals site too if memory serves right.

^ Don't believe there's a rail connection to the silos any longer, but they're used often and owned by a co-op (meaning there are many owners), perhaps making any acquisition difficult. Personally, I love them. Wish they were painted and lit.

For what it's worth, IKEA tried to work with the owners to project images on the silos during their grand opening events. The plan was for either movies or art to be projected throughout the week. Cortex and IKEA couldn't get the owners to say yes, even to this temporary use. I don't see any way they'll be painted or lit in the near future unless they're bought out by new ownership.

Area definitely needs way more density to support rail. Right now looks like zero pedestrians and 100% personal motor vehicle mode share.

^Agreed. I was just down there yesterday. It's nice and new and all of the landscaping is well done, but there are two many vast open spaces of parking, grass, or empty lot separating everything. Residential and a new approach to new buildings' street interface and proximity to each other - i.e. the construction of an actual street wall - are need ASAP.

If you go there on a Sunday....... I think that could help to explain - at least partly - why there weren't any pedestrians. Usually there are pedestrians. Doesn't appear there were many cars either based on the photos you posted.

But yes, there needs to be more density, which is why there are plans to create more.

There are plans for hotels, residential, more offices/labs, restaurants/retail etc.

Hopefully, we will be getting some new renderings from Wexford soon.

Latest reporting - not that there's been much recently - has construction starting summer 2017 and completion in 2018. As always, it can't come soon enough.

They've blocked some spots off in the @4240 parking lot adjacent to the Metrolink area so I think we're going to start seeing some signs of work.

I understand Metro provided an update on the project to a reply on Metro's Facebook page yesterday. ;)

So you don't have to go digging for this wonderful update #SavedYouAClickAndFiveMinutesOfSearching
2. We expect construction on the Boyle Avenue MetroLink Station to begin sometime this summer. Currently, the project is nearing the end of its design phase. Remember, the new MetroLink station is grouped in with two other projects – an extension of the Great Rivers Greenway trail and the extension of the Central West End MetroLink platform.

Thanks aprice. I didn't realize the CWE platform extension was a definitive part of this project. This is going to be quite the construction site this fall.

Forgive me my ignorance, but why did this project take so long for planning/design? It's not like train stations have radically changed in the past 100 years.
