St. Louis Business Journal reporting that a 125-150 room hotel under a major hotel flag is in the beginning stages of planning for the old Harry's site at 22nd and Market. Typical construction costs put the cost at at least $15 million. The Harry's property was acquired in June.

Nice addition to the future 22nd street interchange.

Interesting. Here's hoping it is designed well and not like the Drury across the street.

Side note, can the MLS stadium still fit without using the Harry's or Maggie O'Briens site? I figured one of those parcels would be needed and I figured it would be the Harry's site.

When I read about this plan, I thought the exact same thing.

There's a way to build a 125-room hotel to modern, urban aesthetics without it looking like the Home2 Suites in FoPo Southeast.

God no! There are too many suburbanish buildings on this part of Market Street. This part of Market Street needs updating. The city should regulate/mandate/encourage urban design in this area.

Also, I don't know if the site is large enough, but it would be great if Equis partnered with a residential development firm to make it a mixed-use development.

There is still space on the site for a MLS stadium, the state also owns the lots north of Market, and at the September meeting, the MoDOT Commission appears to have entering into an agreement to sell 22nd street interchange site to the City..

why would a hotel developer buy the land? hotel developer develop and land speculators sit on it..

^Real estate developers buy and sell land all the time. Sometimes they build things, sometimes they resell to others. I guess the bottom line is who owns the land? Who has options on it?

a hotel developer owns the land (Harrys Site)
the rest of the 22nd street is State with the option for the City to buy it.

Thought running through my head is a Aloft here in the city, Fairfield there, something similar tied to the zoo old FP hospital site not to mention Botique Hotels and soon any push to put a high rise hotel/residential tower whether it be in CWE, BPV or even Drury @ the landing pretty much goes on hold due to city picking up a significant number of hotel rooms but scattered.

This is moving ahead.

Equis Hotels, the St. Louis-based hotel operator that acquired the old Harry’s Restaurant & Bar property downtown in 2015, is officially moving forward with plans for new hotel on the site, just west of Union Station.

Equis founder and CEO Michael Mullenix said the company will build a five-story, 137-room Fairfield Inn & Suites to go along with a 110-space parking garage at 2144 Market St. In all, the project is estimated to cost about $20 million.
