Looks like this place will be opening shortly! New signs on the windowns and looks like the interior is getting done now.

Good news too! :D

Just another great addition to Downtown!

---

Acclaimed chef, Jonathan Mortimer, will move from Boise, Idaho to St. Louis to open Mortimer's at 1511 Washington Ave. Flannery's, a neighborhood restaurant and sports bar will open this Fall in the Grace Lofts at 1324 Washington Ave.

I ate at Flannery's twice this weekend - had lunch there Saturday and then went there to watch the Falcons-Eagles game. It's a great place, and had good crowds both times. There are a ton of tvs, so it is the perfect place to watch a game (pretty much any game that is being televised!) - lots of big flat screens. The food and the service was good as well. The menu was standard bar fare, but everything I tried was very good.

Since the bar near my house (Q's) pretty much sucks, I might have to make Flannery's my new sports bar of choice.

I actually went there on Sunday. I was very impressed with the atmosphere of the place. Yeah...it's your typical Irish pub, but it's on Washington, making it NOT your typical Irish pub. It was very full when I went and my brother and I asked our waitress how business had been, and she said they had a great turnout this weekend, even without a sign on the building. (At least I didn't see one...)

I had the buffalo chicken sandwich, which is practically all I ever eat, and it was very good. Good (thin) fries too.

The waitress we had seemed very enthused about the place. She told us she lives downtown in the Merchandise Mart lofts and absolutely loves living there.

I will definitely be returning to Flannery's.

It seemed to me that a lot of the people there were neighborhood residents, which is great. It was a pretty young crowd there both days, which is great. I hope they do a good nighttime and weekday business as well.

It's good to have a place to have a beer and a burger and watch a game downtown. Dooley's is a great burger place, but it's never open when I want to go there.

It's actually quite funny that you mention that many of the people there were residents. I was discussing downtown living with my brother, who sort of jokingly antagonizes me about my love for city-life. He looked out the window and saw a building with broken windows and said, "No one actually lives down here...people can't live in those buildings with the broken windows." And sure enough...our waitress comes by and asks us how things are and if we're from "the neighborhood" (which struck me) and then she said she lived downtown and it was a blast.

That was one of those perfectly-timed "I told you so" moments.

Went back to Flannery's last night, and the place was absolutely packed. I was there from 6 to around 11 - watched some games, had dinner and several beverages. Early on, it was mostly fans of the Missouri Valley Conference teams that were playing in the Savvis Center, but as the night went on, it was pretty clear that it was mostly St. Louisans there.

Downtown was hopping last night - so much activity!

Looking forward to trying this place out.

I am also excited about the new florist opening across the street.

Anyone have name of it or additional info?

Thanks in advance!

I came back into town last week for spring break. Downtown has made remarkable improvements in the past 9 months.

Friday night the street was lively-and I've even noticed more people are wondering off Washington onto 10th, Locust, etc. Which is a good sign-people feel safe downtown. Everywhere I went was packed-Mosaic, K, Flannery's, Lucas Park Grille, and even the art galleries/furniture shops (it was a "gallery walk" night). The crowd was diverse, and fun. 8)

Wednesday-I still haven't found anything in Chicago that rivals what Rue 13 and Pepper Lounge do on wednesdays. They were both hopping by midnight. (yes midnight on a wednesday!)

As far as Flannery's is concerned-Alas, they were too busy, and we sought drinks farther down the street. I do think the neighborhood needed a place like this, though.

Chicago is a great city, but I still miss St. Louis!

Rue is the bomb.

Flannery's-

THe Nachos are not good. Big pile of chips with melted cheddar. I make more spectacular nachos at home. Though I got them without chili...

The Chicken philly is great!

The beer is cold.

Thumbs up.

Friday night, in need of a place to meet friends after the symphony (me)/ Cards game (them), and having read the glowing reviews on here, I suggested Flannery's. The idea was to find a place away from the throng (i.e. the Landing) where we could sit, drink, and eat.

I arrived first (10:25?); parking on Washington was taken, but I found a spot on Locust. The lower level was crowded, but not packed; the upper corner was virtually empty, so, expecting a group (and a wait) I grabbed a table. Having no waitress wander nearby (maybe the tux was intimidating?) I helped myself to the bar...twice.

As game attendees percolated away from the stadium, the street got busier, but the bar seemed to benefit from the increased traffic only marginally. My people arrived (11-ish, and having partaken of libations at the game), and still...no waitress...so we ambled to the bar again. When, by request, she turned up...the kitchen had closed.

We left, if not disappointed, at least not impressed, shortly after the first round (12:15-ish). In our estimation, Flannery's was generally expensive (no specials, they asked), with deficient service, no food, and also not quite as lively as I'd anticipated.

Haven't been there, so I can't really comment, but I would imagine that does not happen very often. (Hopefully) Shame you didn't have the greatest experience.

I too find Flannery's somewhat expensive, but it is a more high brow crowd than what I usually hang with :D

When they first opened I hoped it would be a good alternative to the other bars on Washington.

The food is pretty good and moderately priced, however, they could work on the $3.75 Bud lights. I believe Happy Hour ends at 7 PM and in general and I wouldn't recommend drinking on Washington Ave for anyone on a budget. It is a great place to watch a game if your favorite team isn't on TV.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience though, don't let it sour you.

I went to Flannery's on a Friday night at around 10 p.m. a week ago and it was absolutely packed and VERY lively. The service wasn't top notch, but the place was so crowded I didn't expect it. The food is good and, I think, reasonably priced.

I don't really drink though, so maybe that's where the bill really adds up.

I've probably been there 6-7 times now and have had good to very good service every time. As it gets later and the place gets more crowded, maybe the quality goes down, but overall, I've had nothing but good experiences there.

I met a group of friends down there a few weeks ago as we watched the NCAA tournament games before they got to STL. We had to stand by the door the place was so packed but had no problem getting served. Reminded me of a smaller Jaques for some reason. I dig the place.

Welcome to the Ave., Irish!

I agree. Flannery's gets pretty loud and isn't always the best place to go if you want to talk to whoever you're with.

Flannery's S****ks. There, I've said it.

Actually, I hang out there pretty often. I like the cheaper food, more casual atmosphere, etc. I especially like sitting in the window booths - a great place for people watching.

But let's face it. The food is bad and its way to loud. And why people think its a good sports bar is beyond me. I'm ready for another pub-type place on Washington. Give me cold beer and good burgers at a price I can afford, and I'm there!

By the way, speaking of tacky waitress outfits, remember that Flannerys' are dressed like Catholic Schoolgirls in mini-skirts.

I was there and the girl had a black shirt with jeans on. That was a few weeks ago.

The accoustics are bad because of the high ceilings, it causes a sort of cave like feeling...making it loud. It's a good sports bar because there are a lot of nice tvs, and they've got good beer.

I do agree that their food sucks. I've never been impressed.

Actually, I have been pleased with the food I get there. I am glad you can get a vegetable side instead of fries with a sandwich. HOWEVER, I have never been there when it didn't take an inordinate amount of time to get our food. I don't go as often as I might for lunch because it takes so long and they aren't even that busy.

Honestly, I don't think the food is all that bad, but all I've had there has been chicken sandwiches, burgers, etc., all stuff that's kind of hard to mess up too badly.

And I think it's a pretty good place to watch a game - they have a lot more (and larger) tvs than most other establishments downtown.

I will agree that it is way too loud though.

Maybe I should rephrase...the food is on a par, or slightly below par for your average sports bar. For your average pub, it's well below par. I'd rather have a place with good, affordable eats like Llwelyns, Dressels, McGurks and others.

Sounds like you hit the Flannery's lottery...

It would appear that many agree that there is some unexplainable lag in service time. It really boggles the mind. Everytime I've been it takes so long to get your order, and the waitress comes around none too often. I will say that if you sit at the bar it is a little quicker, but there has got to be some sort of serious mismanagment in the kitchen or something. Get a new kitchen manager.

If they could remedy that issue, I think it would really help out. Like CityBoy said, he doesn't go there for lunch due to his perception of service time. He actually believes its not an option due to their inability to quickly produce very remedial menu items. It does not take the better part of a half hour (or longer if they "just got slammed" even though you are one of FOUR tables) to produce a burger, nachos, a sandwhich, or a chili dog. Reallly.

I still like Flannery's. I think the food is great. Good buffalo chicken and great fries.

Service isn't always dependable, but it's never outright terrible.
