I've been to Flannery's lots of times. For lunch, dinner and the occassional Friday or Saturday night. Everything there is just unreliable. The food will be good on some days and not so good others. Service will be good some days and not so good other days. I really like their salads but as with burgers and grilled chicken, how do you really screw that up? Their soup, fries and buffalo chicken are good.

The waitresses have several different things they wear. The school girl outfits are worn occasionally. Mostly it's jeans or khakis and a Flannery's shirt.

The place is insanely loud on a Friday/Saturday night. And unless you can elbow your way up to the bar on those nights, drink slow. Your waitress will not be around any time soon.

So why do I go back? It's one of the very few decently priced places that close to my loft. Lucas Park is more expensive. I don't really like Kitchen K at all. Flannery's had the shuttle to the Cardinals games and I went to those a whole lot (although the shuttle was broken and we ended up walking a lot). And many times I don't really care if it's slow because I'm just spending time with friends. It's not a bad place, it just needs to step it up a notch both food and service wise and keep it consistent.

I went there last night (I have been many many times before, though), and had a chicken philly, which was well above average, garlic mashed potatoes (quite good, even if heavy on the garlic), and many cold beers. I went there with the six friends that split Cardinals season tickets with me so we could draft which games we wanted. I say this to point out that we were able to talk and communicate with no problem over the noise. On top ogf that, we got to see Duke lose, Texas lose, and the UK-Tenn game. I think it's a great place to weatch sports.

The one problem I have is the music. W(ho)TF ACTUALLY LIKES OAR???? And they play it over and over and over and over. They play a total of 8 different bands, and they all suck, with the possible exception of Pearl Jam, who I can tolerate. It's like being in a frat house circa 1997.

I want to open a bar just so I can control the content of the juke box.

Your description of the music is dead-on - I was in a fraternity in 1997, so I can vouch for your statement. :) Way too much Dave Matthews and other lame tunes and no variety whatsoever. My advice to them: get a satellite radio and play Sirius Left of Center at all times.

Right ON. Left of Center is solid.

I've been to Flannery's about 8-10 times in the last year. The service and food quality have been consistently good each time I've been there- obviously good enough to keep me coming back to the place. There are times when it's been a bit loud, and I agree that the music generally sucks, but each time I've had an enjoyable experience overall.

However, I cannot say I've hit the "Flannery's Lottery" as someone called it previously, because I've never been on a night when the waitresses were sporting the Catholic schoolgirl look...

Unfortunately, I once hit the lottery there while on a date with my then girlfriend/now fiancee. I felt like Ted Ferguson from the Bud Light commercials, trying to ignore them.

OK, after a year, here are my observations:

The Good:

1) I've been in there probably 10-15 times on weekends for lunch. The food is consistently good.

2) The waitresses/bartenders are cute (the female ones. The males may also be cute, but I wouldn't know)

3) Lot's of TV's, and they are quick to change the station if you ask. They turned on Everton-Watford a few weeks ago, about 5 minutes before a group of 5-6 Everton supporters came in. It was Kismet!

The Bad:

1) I was in there for the first time at night tonight. It's a sausage factory. At 9:30, I counted 74 patrons. Of that number, 9 of them were female. Of that number, ZERO of them were not part of a larger co-ed group. Translation - not a place to meet girls.

The Dreadful:

1) At 9:15 tonight, the "entertainment" started. It was karaoke. Why are all karaoke "DJs" hoosiers? I guess because all the "singers" are?

It is safe to assume I won't be back at night, unless someone knows of a time when there aren't 90% guys and karaoke.

Not always. I've been in my fair share of sports bars that are closer to 50/50, or at least 60/40.

Go on friday or saturday smart guy.

Tuesday at 9 pm (what are you 45?) at a sports bar is the worst option of every availble variable present in this equation if the desired end result is single, unaffiliated good looking women.

Never really should have been basis for the visit.

That's dedication to counting the number of people in a bar!

It was 9:30. Can't you read?

And meeting women was not the "basis for the visit". I was walking by on my way home from Schlafly's and wanted something to eat.

If I was going to rant about the lack of females in the bar, I needed accurate data! :)

If by "coeds" you mean college girls, I would agree.

I'm sure I'll be back sometime on a weekend, but it just struck me as odd last night. Maybe a lot of people were there for the karaoke, which is odd in itself.

All I know is that they take good care of Billiken fans during our games, so the place is okay in my book. :)

Terribly sorry to shortshrift you the half hour.

Your initial con observation, coupled with the conclusion you would not be back at night (implied EVER) lead me to believe that this was a primary directive in your programming.

My bad.

I certainly hope so!

If we win tonight, I'll probably go to Flannery's to watch our game against UMASS on Thursday.
