KSDK: The former great TV news outlet of St. Louis. Great set, kind of hooshy anchors, is Deane Lane a dominatrix after work? what's up with all the black leather? stories about anything BUT St. Louis City, and might as well move their headquarters to O'Fallon MO. the most hooshy/west county news option.

KMOV: Increasingly more impressive and quality. Better dressed/spoken news anchors. Love Larry Connors new head merken (google it if you don't know it) Probably the most impressive news cast in the city, KSDK, what happened?

FOX2: Being attached to Fox News somewhat tarnishes the image, but always enjoy their city stories. Probably the most interesting political commentary. Love You Paid For it, especially when shot in Wellston!

CHannel 11: Haven't watched since Christine Buck.

I haven't watched any TV news in over 10 years. Total waste of time.

That's a pretty accurate take IMHO. I try to watch local news as little as possible, but I still have some strong opinions about our media.

KSDK is really geared toward suburban residents and at times seems to have a strong anti-city bias. I thought their Ballpark Village coverage was atrocious, as I pointed out in the thread related to that development. Frank Cusumano's blatant homerism and tendency to fawn over average high school athletes grates on my nerves, and chief meteorologist Cindy Prezler looks so much like a Stepford Wife that I find it frightening to watch her.

Thursday evening, KSDK aired one of their 60th anniversary specials, and this time the focus was urban sprawl. Predictably, more time was spent focusing on the city's drastic decline and the suburbs that benefited from it (St. Charles County) and less time was devoted to good news within the city proper (which, in the words of Mike Bush, is undergoing "a bit of a renaissance" in downtown). Supposedly this special can be viewed on ksdk.com, but I couldn't find a link. (I'll update the thread later if the link becomes available.)

KTVI has many city-focused stories, and I think Charles Jaco has done an excellent job of covering issues like Ballpark Village development and the shenanigans at SLPS. However, the influence of Mothership Fox is way too evident, the sensationalism runs high at times, some of the reporters act as if they carry a flask on the job, and personalities like Elliot Davis, Rob Desir, and Tim Ezell are as classy as your average carnival barker.

KMOV is about as good as it gets. Am I damning them with faint praise? It's local news, therefore it's far from perfect, but IMHO it's still far better than its two major competitors. The anchors and reporters seem much more professional overall. City coverage has improved, and I try to watch the Sauce on the Street segment when I think of it. Overall, not bad.

Isn't KPLR a public access channel? Oh well...at least they have Melanie Moon! 8)

A lot of people here beat up on the Post-Dispatch, but frankly, unless there's something major going on, I tune out the local news and read the newspaper instead.

Fox 2 is nothing like the cable Fox News Channel.

^ I respectfully disagree. KTVI sometimes seems to mimic some of Faux Noise's sensationalism even if there's none of the parent company's obvious political bias.

They are ALL eye candy and pablum, good for nothing except weather and sports, and very little value there either.

Are you talking about the cheesy 3D graphics, and sound FX?

So how old is Larry Conners now? 90? I happened to catch channel 4's news yesterday, and noticed that he's lookin' pretty rough.

I absolutely detest KSDK news. It's blatantly geared towards suburban soccer moms, turning fluff into "news." Another problem I have is with some of their new reporters/anchors (I'm not going to mention names). But let's just say one of them has the most annoying HICK Southern accent and another's reporting is so poorly delivered that it would be better suited for Dubuque, Iowa newscast.

KMOV is much more edgy and city-centered, the way a big city newscast should be. Did you know that Larry Connors grew up in a trailer park in Texas? I miss Julius Hunter too-- he had the best one-liners, referring to O.J.'s getaway car as "El Bronco Blanco" and humorously poking fun at Lorena Bobbit for "chopping off her husband's penis."

I caught a "focus on faith" segment on fox 2 the other day-sorry but I don't see where that is news. I think that that segment proves they are just part of the fox news machine.

Yes, as opposed to the obvious liberal political bias from almost all major television networks to include CNN, CBS, NBC, ABC. Media bias is real.

See: http://www.newsroom.ucla.edu/page.asp?RelNum=6664

"Overall, the major media outlets are quite moderate compared to members of Congress, but even so, there is a quantifiable and significant bias in that nearly all of them lean to the left," said co?author Jeffrey Milyo, University of Missouri economist and public policy scholar.

Julius Hunter was always my favorite anchor too. He always had this kind of, it seemed to me anyway, detached amusement when reading the news as if he couldn't half believe the s*** he was reading.

When I get up, Fox is the only local station on air so I usually check them out for the weather.....quickly. This morning Tim Ezell was at a baseball field with a bunch of people trying to bat with a blindfold on :?: They let him swing for probably two solid minutes before going back to the "news." Then they cut over to Angela Hutti (new weatherlady) who had forgotten to pick up her little button that changes the screen behind her so after an uncomfortable 20 seconds, they the cut to traffic. It is like a cable access kids show over there.

Is there no local ABC news anymore? I guess that question proves how long it's been since I've watched local St Louis news.

I must say that Channel 5 (KSDK) must be one of the worst major market news stations in the country. Not only is the scripting awful, but the delivery is boring and mediocre. This is "news" that caters only to suburban soccer moms who like their daily soup sugarcoated. I really can't even stomach Channel 5 anymore at all. I do like Jennifer Blome though. And don't even get me started about Show Me St. Louis. They should rename it Show Me St. Peters, because it seems like everytime I happen to come across it, they are doing a half-hour segment on some craft fair out in East Jesus. "If you can't watch, tape it at 3:00." Uhhh...no.

Channel 4 (KMOV) is great IMO, at least compared to the other outlets. Their writing is so much better, with much more of a big city tone. I think the anchors are much more natural and comfortable, with a few exceptions.

I do a.m. as background noise just before going out the door so I'm not a big fan. Although it was KTVI exclusively until I was impressed by the KMOV morning anchor at a press conference I attended. He asked excellent questions and appeared intellgient so I started tuning in to Ch. 4. I can't recall his name.

I see KMOV way above the others because of technology, production and direction. They owe a lot to whomever directs the morning show. That traffic tracking system they have is amazing too (even though I ride the bus and could care less about traffic).

A few weeks ago the dorky KSDK weather guy actually said we'd been "blessed with a beautiful day". :x When we have bad weather why doesn't he say "We must have really pi$$ed Jesus off because he has cursed us with a big storm today"?

Talk about amateurs... KSDK in the mornings with Art Holiday & Jennifer Blome. Very unprofessional with her annoying giggle constantly. I can't stand that in the mornings. Please...spare us!
