What about the "M lofts" and the "Lofts at Lafayette Square" They obviously have more than 8 units. Maybe they just need to get special permission.

It looks like the foundation is being poured...

This project is really going to have a big impact. It will fill a very large hole and help build-up the commercial zone of Lafayette Square. That little fountain park won't feel so conspicuously out-in-the-open anymore. Now if we can get something built on Sqwire's parking lot...

According to the web site, all the townhouses are reserved. All the retail spaces are, too. It'll be a great little retail street.

Is there any update on who has leased the retail space?

This project is really moving along now. The mansard roof has been framed-in on the south portion, but the corner commercial section is still just a foundation. They've got construction photos posted on the Vail Place website.

^Yeah, it seemed to slow down during the cold weather, but from three or four weeks ago to just a couple weeks ago, I was amazed at the progress. This development seems to have everything that good urban infill should be in LS, but this would also look great in Soulard, Benton Park, Hyde Park and Old North St. Louis.

Can someone explain why people would want to torch this?

This is getting rediculous. They need to find a way to catch these arsonists, or else they will get exactly what they want, "fear" instilled in developers building new developments in the city.

This is horrible. I guess each project should consider adding night security guards.

The developer of Vail Place is the same developer as the townhouses on Grand that were torched and the Wireworks Lofts, which were also torched.

Centralscrutinizer mentioned that he heard they've been using non-union labor.

See a connection?

I heard yesterday morning that the prime suspect is a labor union...won't say which one. Honestly, I can't believe that these developers do not have 24/7 security on site.

^ and people wonder how union's get a bad name. STL has such high construction costs... guess folks are afraid of a little competition.

They need 24/7 security with shoot-to-kill instructions.

I think he's referring to suspects of past fires at the Compton Gate condos and the Wireworks Lofts.

Unfortunately Unions were my first thought as well, can someone confirm that these were non-union sites?. Hopefully whoever is doing this gets caught before more development is stifled

BSI was building the Guilded Age project, and they are fully union.

That would be illegal.
