^You don't like it because you don't understand what it's doing now. I get that. But there's absolutely still a need for the US to build good will and improve its image abroad. We face real global challenges. We have real security interests. When I first went to Ho Chi Minh City there was one automobile factory in town that was a joint venture between Daimler Benz and Ford. Now there's several, including domestic Vietnamese automobiles and a variety of other Asian manufacturers. Local sentiment in places like Vietnam towards the US makes a difference in what people buy, in what investment foreign governments permit, even in how people treat US tourists. There are a lot of places like Vietnam. There are a lot of places seeing rapid growth and urbanization. Those are the places where VOA makes a difference. I think you're hung up on this idea that it's us vs. someone else. It's not that simple. VOA absolutely has a mission and it's cheap at the price. There absolutely are not a million better ways to spend the very modest sum of money that it requires.

These MAGAts and other fascists have zero understanding of the concept of soft power.

They see free bags of US grain and free malaria treatments in the third world as just a cost with no benefit. Not America first.

^Yeah, yeah, I've listened to Perun's reporting on the subject. We were on top of the stinking world and the furious leader and his sycophant have thrown it all away for a few bucks in their own overstuffed pockets. Thieves. Nothing but a den of rapacious thieves.

This will be detrimental to pretty much all colleges, forcing them to give out less aid and cut costs significantly.

We don't need to carve out little pockets of the population this will be detrimental to, it will be detrimental to all of us.

Trump announced tariffs ranging from a minimum of 10% to as high as 49% on every country.

You can find the full list in plenty of places. It's insane.

I will be shocked if literally any of our big projects get off the ground in the next couple of years.

And no new student housing projects?
I wonder why
The media outlet Zeteo reports that Homeland Security employees are revoking foreign students’ status in the database that’s usually maintained by universities.   https://www.nytimes.com/2025/04/02/opinion/trump-ice-immigrants.html?unlocked_article_code=1.8k4.RXBy.Ezdp9m6gPq8R

No words can’t describe how economically depressing this is. We’ll be eating bag & canned beans soon. Oh well they voted for this sh** show. I know the election was hacked & stolen. I don’t know if America will be what it once was. All this to keep foreigners out to silence gays & trans to promote racism I can go on & on. We’re now in dark Trump days.

For those not keeping track. It's been less than three full months since the inauguration. The metaphorical Titanic hasn't even hit the iceberg yet.

We are in fact cutting the number of life boats though, because they're wasteful!

Will shoe production return to St Louis from overseas from Trump Tariffs? Buster Brown shoes and Red Goose shoes were worn by every kid in America before say 1965. All made in St Louis by Brown Shoe Company (now Caleres) and International Shoe Company (now bankrupt).

Nope, nobody is going to build a shoe factory in the US because of tariffs that will be gone in a maximum of 3.75 years. We will just have to pay more for shoes
