This is really going to be a solid addition when it opens in July 2021. The neighboring Mulligan Building will also be good for the area. Now, we need to get Butler Brothers and the building at 17th and Locust fixed up..

From Mr. Masiel: "The southwest side of the building will be parking. The rest of the first floor will be apartments and common area. We have to keep the historic windows on the first floor so we are restoring those. This building is looking great. I am excited for this property."

Interesting decision to paint the bricks on the St. Charles side that dark color. I don't know if I'm sold.

For what it's worth, the bricks on the back and east side were already painted "brick red". And from the picture above and Google Street View, it looks like there were a lot of bad wall repairs done over the years hidden underneath that paint, like they just spread mortar over the brick, or filled in sections of missing brick with concrete...

I hade a similar thought, but like urbanitas pointed out, it was already painted (on the east side too), and might not have been easily restorable back to the original condition. I personally probably would have stuck with the "brick red" color to better match the building, but I'm going to try not to be too mad about the gray.

For what it's worth, the northern/eastern facades don't appear to have been particularly "unaltered" historically. These have always been the "working sides" of the building, whereas the western/southern facades were the "show floor" sides, with much fancier brickwork, ornamentation, etc.

^Ok, now I'm confused. If that's the right building in your top photo, there's barely any brick on the back of the building at all, whereas the gray painted side has brick pattern on the spandrels and columns, in most places anyway.

And shout out to the Weber family.  They've been in business in this city almost 120 years...

^ Both of the pictures included above are of the east side of the building. The alley doesn't really seem to show up in any photos I've found to date.

Aha, I had no idea they had already been painted and that the bricks may have been in bad shape.  Thanks for the clarification!
