So can you..like bring your kid in here? Is it a restaurant with a bar or a bar with food?

I haven't heard much about The Wedge yet, but whenever I drive by there, it seems like there's already a steady stream of patrons there.

I live just a few blocks away, and the area has a rather interesting combination of the good (Iron Barley and the Mexican restaurants near the Grand Boulevard /Bates Street intersection), the bad (the BP and the 7-11 at the Virginia Avenue/Bates Street intersection, and the ugly (the patrons of the aforementioned gas station and convenience store). So The Wedge seems like a great addition to the 'hood already, and I hope it does well.

Hopefully I'll get a chance to check it out soon. The menu looks nifty- a nice departure from other bars in the area. I'll be sure to try the "Lovely Antipasti Perfectly Suited for a Midwestern Blue-Collar Tavern run by Ex-Hipsters" from the starter menu.

I think they are going for a Hi-Pointe with good food vibe. The bands are of teh punk/rock/metal variety. Hell, the name of one of the music room is the Iggy Ziggy ROom

"the Wedge" used to be the name of a strip club at that very location. This one is good, but the old Wedge? Unbeatable.

The Wedge was featured on KMOV's Sauce on the Street last night. The food looks great, so I'm really looking forward to trying this place ASAP.

Didn't this place used to be a regular south city tavern? I was shocked to see the Sauce segment on KMOV. The food looked pretty 'upscale' for that part of south St. Louis. Then again, Holly Hills is fairly close. Who knows....

Well someone had to try and gentrify this neighborhood sooner or later. I mean, I've updated my humble abode, but I can only do so much. :P

That area needs some gentrification. The area north of "The Wedge" has some pretty rough things going on. The Safe City map gets a workout in that neighborhood on the northeast corner of Grand/Bates.

No argument there. Virginia Avenue to the north has potential, and nearby Iron Barley seems to have carved a niche for itself. By all measures, though, there's still a long way to go in this area and that's why I hope the initial buzz surrounding The Wedge develops into something lasting. Every little bit helps.

I drove by here last week and I notice this place across the way was being rehabbed. I think the old name was maybe Tin Cup or something like that. Anyone know what the scoop is?

We had a pizza and a few beers at The Wedge a few weeks ago. The place was empty when we got there about 6:00 on a Friday night, but it was full about 90 minutes later when we left.

Good beer selection, and nice dining room. The pizza? Meh. Not bad, but not great. We both definitely felt Mattingly's is much better. With the two about the same distance from our house, I'm sure Mattingly's will get more of our business.

But we'll probably be back to check out the rest of their menu.

We're doing Molly's in Soulard for NYE and they're having pizza brought in from The Wedge. Hopefully it will be good.

Went there tonight for the first time. A pretty good crowd. Great job on the rehab. Nice beer selection. Had the O'Fallon IPA which might just be my new favorite beer. Very smokey. Not very kid friendly. Food was pretty average. Service was good. Got a tour of the upstairs music venue which is called the Iggy Ziggy Room. I was surprised at how small the space is. One of the workers told me the capacity is 70 people which I cannot imagine. I might go back to check out a band.

I'd assume it will return to it's dive bar status, pre-NOV 08.

Maybe if the area gets lucky, a good owner will come in and offer something unique. Iron Barley seems to do well in that area. No reason that location could not.

Everyone I talked to complained about how smoky it was, which was the main reason I never went.

I knew they were on their last legs when a few weeks ago my wife and I were the only ones in the place at 9pm on a Saturday night. Some thoughts:

-the parking situation was horrible. No parking lot and street options were limited.

-having only a single unisex bathroom for a bar that size is stupid.

-the place was very smoky, but that was a given. Most South city hipsters love to smoke like fiends when they are out drinking. Just look at places like Mangia, CBGB, Way Out Club, Cat's Meow: quite possibly some of the smokiest bars around.
