Why in the world is Metrolink soooooo slow between the Civic Center and Busch Stadium stations? I heard that it is because the turns around there are too sharp. Can anyone confirm this?



Assuming that is the case, we need to lobby to rework the tracks to bank them to allow for a faster turn. The DC metro banks its tracks enabling a higher speed around corners.

^I don't think Metro has any money to be modifying tracks. Hell, Metro doesn't have money to MAINTAIN current tracks without a tax increase. I think this would be a complete waste of time, money, and effort. Our energy should be focused on stabalizing Metro's budget and aquiring funding for the North/South line.

The speed on the entire alignment is based upon safety based design parameters for the curves, hills, crossings, etc. From Union Station to Civic Center, we have to make virtually a 90 degree turn and then stop. Your probably not going to go too fast even if you banked the curve because you have a grade crossing and station stop immediately after the turn.

I think Metro makes up the time between the Busch Stadium & 8th and Pine Stations. Those trains accelerate to top speed in no time.

The Union Station and Civic Center stations are only a few hundred feet apart. No reason slamming the gas and slamming the breaks. Then to get to the stadium there are 2 almost 90 degrees turns , including one into the tunnel. Just doesn't seem like the distances are great enough to warrant top speed.



I know we all are dying for that extra 30 seconds back in our lives...like the 30 seconds I spent writing this, but I think its a prudent area to take slow.



Imagine a train packed with cards fans flooring it toward the civic center station. Hit a corner and we'd all fly. Especially post-game when we are all "well lubed".

Some of it depends on the train engineer. I've been on MetroLink trains with engineers who handle it like their driving a bus...even re-opening the doors for passengers who come running.
