After many, many months of delay, it looks like work has finally started on this new bar/restaurant. They had hoped to have a beer garden on the roof, but concerns from Fashion Square (right next door) may have ended that idea.

Please tell more. Is this on top of the florist? Haven't heard....
Is that awful yellow building going to be painted to look like something other than a Waffle House?

It would Its the Lemansky (or similar) shoe co. building. Its in between Kenary Florist and gifts and the Gelateria. Only thing not filled in there. Boards in the windows...looks like a large space though. With Kenary in between I don't see why its a issue to have a deck. Must be a noise thing...Mcgowan probably threatened to veto their liqour license. That or they're the landlords and where like...eh, no.
A deck is what we need...would be awesome.

If you put a wood slit roof (like they have on Lucas Park), I think that could filter the volume enough to not be a problem. My friend lives overlooking the LPG deck, and it's not loud at all.
Just to clarify for Way of the Arch: It's not the Mankofsky Shoe Company building. It is "that awful yellow building". Its where the Brazilian Dance studio used to be, right between Philip Slein Gallery and Kenary Park Florist.
The beergarden would have been above both the new bar and the Florist. I heard that some of the commercial tenants in Fashion Square (on the second and third floors) didn't like the idea of a bunch of people drinking etc. right outside their windows. I can certainly understand their point, but I think a rooftop beergarden would be a huge hit in the loft district.
BTW, the Mankofsky Shoe company is still very much open for business. It just doesn't look like it from the street. They don't want any walk-in traffic, since they're strictly wholesale.

Word...The Brazilian Tae-bo place was what I had originally thought of, but I had thought Kenary had taken over it. Cool. Wouldn't mind a different business than Mankofsy there though. Wholesale does little for taxes and the covered windows look bad.
For what its worth...I heard that one of the owners of this new place is also co-owner of Harry's over on Market Street.
Any other info on this place? I walked by the other day and was just curious what type of venue it will be....?
I don't want to spread any missinformation, but word on the street is that this place is gonna have Hooters-style waitresses. Like I say, that's just the rumor I keep hearing.

Tell me more!!!!
They left the blueprints in the window today, so I tried to do a little snooping. Looks like this place will seat about 50 people or so. It'll have a looooong bar running down the west side of the space, tables on the east. Two tables right in the storefronts should provide some great Washington Avenue people-watching. No clue about the decor or finish, though.
BTW, they started stripping off the stucco last week, but it looks like maybe the underlying bricks were more deteriorted than they expected. They immediately stopped, and slopped some morter around the bricks. I still don't know what they're doing about the facade.

These guys are applying for a 3 AM liquor license, and also plan to have a sidewalk cafe. The drywall is going up now.
I love sidewalk cafes. They add so much life to a sidewalk. It's something I don't see enough of. I'd like to see one that isn't fenced in. I love how the Loop pretty much just has tables on both sides of the sidewalk. Every time we go to one, they mention how their city limits sidewalk cafes to a fenced in area that doesn't protrude from the restaurant.Framer wrote:These guys are applying for a 3 AM liquor license, and also plan to have a sidewalk cafe. The sidewalk eating areas on Washington Av. do not have fences. But we're talking about very limited seating, usually just 4 or 5 tables. The CWE does sometimes contain the seating areas within fences, but those are much larger venues.
There's no fences around Euclid and Maryland. Drunken Fish, Coffee Cartel, and even Culpeppers don't have fences.

Duffs has a fence, as does Kopperman's.

That would be Euclid and McPherson.
My misreading. I understood "Euclid and Maryland" as a reference to two streets in the CWE to make a point about Washington Ave., not as an intersection.
