There's two new doorways now. Apparently, one for each of the two retail spaces in the westernmost area of the Meridian.

Not exactly what I had in mind, but it is a retailer...And I won't have to go wait for hours at the Big bend/Clayton store!
I know this is off-topic: but that Sprint store is the 7th Pit of Hell. I can't think of a time where that place is stupid crazy busy. 10am on a rainy Tuesday that place is out of control. On weekends they'll have as many as three security guards working.
No wonder Sprint is loosing so many users and their stock is tanking.

It's a smart location- high visibility
I saw the Sprint signs up on the north and west side of the building as I walked by this morning; high visibility, indeed.
Whooooo! After three weeks of looking downtown, the CWE and Shaw/Tower Grove, I've finally settled on the Meridian for my next residence (moving from Skinker)! I didn't buy a unit -- just leasing from an owner -- but I'm still excited.
Now that you guys have been in the building for a while, is there anything I should watch out for, any tips or weird things?

Congrats, u2acro! I've lived here since Sept 2006. I dunno about "wierd" things. It's a nice place to live...

Oh, and I guess I didn't mean "weird" like... uh... "weird." I more meant, I don't know, are there tips like "Never use the elevator at 6 a.m. because smell from the cleaning solution that morning is way too strong" or "Tell people to mail packages to your workplace or else they might get moved from the lobby area."
I guess I'm looking for tips that my unit's owner might not know, since he's never actually lived in the place.

Ha, nice. Well there's probably that kind of stuff in the Google Group. People usually post what's pertinent and on their mind.

Does anyone know if the vacant space south of the Sprint store on Tucker is planned to be filled with anything??

Eventually.
#506 is a 2 bed/2 bath for sale at $179K: any thoughts about this unit? Which way does it face?

^ It's a mirror image of my unit and both face west. This should give you a good idea of the view although you'll have to remember that I'm two units north and one above the prospective unit: http://flickr.com/photos/digistic/sets/ ... 9432/show/

You bought a unit with no walls, plumbing or appliances? I do have to admit though, it looks like you have a lot of space.

I'm trying to figure if 506 only has the three windows in the living room. If that's the only available outside light, then it explains the lower price.

It only has 3 windows. But they should be floor to ceiling. I lived in the Meridian for almost 2 years and found I had plenty of light (never fails when sleeping off a hangover it's sunny). The units are very nicely finished and the neighbors are very nice. I would look into the pending legal issues between the board and the developer.

I'd imagine that to be the case. I think most of the units only have the one wall of a few windows (am I right, Meridianers?). It should allow plenty of light, though. I'm on the stupid "lightwell" (grrr) and I still get an ok amount of daylight. Facing the street, you should be fine.
Also, it turns out that unit is not only on my floor, but right across from me. BUY IT!

The HOA has filed a lawsuit against the developers in St Louis City Courts - public record. They are still having issues with the roof and several "finishing touches". The HOA has hired an outside attorney to represent them - according to what I know of your bylaws - all owners of units in the building will be responsible for court cost and legal fees on behalf of the HOA boards actions.
---- This was going on as I left the building and was still pending at the new year - I am not aware if this has been resolved but it is worth checking into before purchasing in this building.

Do the condos in this building have actual, full bedrooms, with walls all the way to the ceiling? I can't tell from the pictures of this listing, and don't want to waste my time (and theirs) on a viewing if they don't. Having full bedrooms that are enclosed is critical to me.

Before I purchased in Clayton, my roommate at the time and I toured damn near every loft around and my biggest concern was just this. I knew we'd have people over nearly every night till the weeeee hours of the morning and I knew i'd never sleep without an enclosed bedroom.

I have no idea about all of the condos, but my bedroom wall (which is also the hallway wall) does not go to the ceiling. The ceilings are really high, and the rest of the bedroom walls and the entire bathroom reach the ceiling, but that one wall does not. I don't know if I'm an anomoly, though, because mine is a one-bedroom with one of the tiniest floor plans. It hasn't been an issue for me.
I'm sure Dave has been in way more of the units than I have and could probably give you a better assessment.
I think that unit does have full ceiling to floor walls in the 2nd bedroom. The masterbedroom has almost full walls, except over the door.
You will wish the walls were actually half and not full because then you will get more light.
Also with half walls, your bedroom honestly feels 2x bigger.

This is true for all condo buildings.

The developers, also rehabbing the Alexa, sold owners a building with a leaky roof and some units on the top floor repeatedly suffered water damage. I understand that the HOA hired a qualified consultant to advise the board regarding proper remediation. To my knowledge, a satisfactory agreement to repair the roof hadn't been forged.
Additionally, there was a lack of transparency in documents transferred from a developer-run HOA to that run by its owning residents.
Just to be open, shopgirl10 is friends with Rob McRitchie, one of the Meridian's developers. I know him to be a nice guy and find it unfortunate that this wasn't solved through simple negotiations.
Lawsuits shouldn't be taken lightly, but sometimes they are necessary to protect the investment that each owner has placed in their building.
