Here's an update on the building:

Rothschild receives Brownfield tax credits for W. Pine building

St. Louis Business Journal - 9:20 AM CDT Monday, September 10, 2007

St. Louis-based Rothschild Development has been approved for up to $169,898 in Brownfield Redevelopment tax credits from the Missouri Department of Economic Development, Gov. Matt Blunt announced Monday.

The tax credits will go toward the redevelopment of the Melrose Building, located at 4065 West Pine, into a mixed-use development with commercial office space and apartments, creating approximately 25 jobs.

I noticed today some major cracks in the front facade. I looks like a good portion of the building has shifted, and much of the brickwork has gone with it. I'm no engineer, but it looks serious to me.

Has it always looked like this, or has the renovation caused some damage?

I wonder what the old Rossino's space will be after rehab. I can't imagine it is suitable for a restaurant space-- I always wondered how that place passed fire code.

^^Framer, I walked by that building two winters ago, and noticed a pipe had burst, as there was water streaming out of the brickwork. So I imagine that once it froze, it caused a lot of cracking in the facade.

^Could be, but the damage I saw looked more like a foundation problem. But like I say, I'm no engineer.

That damage has been there for decades. Hopefully it will be fixed.

There was a crew out cleaning the brick earlier this week. I had no idea this building was so dirty. The building is now a nice deep brick red.
