I thought this thread was about pizza, not sour grapes.
you guys lost, get over it.
anyways I finally got around to trying Pi on Delmar over the weekend--it was on my pizza list for months. With that one scratched off I can put this one in it's place.

Heh, it's not "you guys." I really didn't have a preference either way. I just found the religous parallels of the Obama campaign amusing -- particularly from a candidate that generally eschews religion (except he had to attend from time to time for populist support.)southsidepride wrote:I thought this thread was about pizza, not sour grapes. you guys lost, get over it.
And yes, I'm really looking forward to trying the pizza. I love it when companies are truly passionate about their product. The Good Pie seems to be, for sure!
Sooo, you are disagreeing? You don't want them to FIX IT!...?southsidepride wrote:I thought this thread was about pizza, not sour grapes.

This disunity is unacceptable, back to the reeducation camps with you!

actually I don't travel down Olive too much, the last time I did was on bike a couple months ago when it was half cinders, quite annoying but I assumed that was a temporary situation.
Is it still that bad?

I work just around the corner from the good pie and popped in yesterday to grab a menu after noticing some comings and goings. I asked if they were open yet and the bartender said, "no, but would you like some pizza?"
A minute later, I was sampling a Margherita. Excellent. They are opening this week, either Thursday or Friday. Inside, the place feels like it has been there for 20 years - very warm and kind of dark, all brick and coziness, with just the right touch of rough edges.
The winter menu features ten pizzas, three salads and a dozen or so small plates.

There's a SLU game at 4 p.m. tomorrow, meaning that 6,000+ hungry people will be in your neck of the woods right at dinner time when the game ends. I'd recommend getting the word out!

Went to The Good Pie this afternoon. Cozy little pizza joint. Felt instantly comfortable in the surroundings when we walked in and sat down. I love the warm open feeling of the place, it helped we sat right next to the pizza making station and wood oven. The wife and i split a delicious caesar salad (cumbled egg was a nice addition) and then devoured the salciccia pie- italian sausage, fresh moz, basil, marinara, fired in a wood oven. Washed it down with a couple of pints of draft beer and walked out only @ $25 lighter. Solid. The fresh ingredients definitely make the difference. We'll be back for sure.
We went to the Good Pie for lunch today and it was awesome. We tried the Salsicca and the Funghi...both were great. The atmosphere with the constantly burning wood fired pizza oven is pretty awesome.
Props to them also on sticking to the local brews.
We will be back many times, it was awesome. They really ahve no competition in town because there arent any real neopolitan pizza places around. Good stuff!

The owner and his wife are very nice people who have taken a big risk in these uncertain times, they have a good product and need to get the word out as they don't have a huge budget..
Please pass on the news to friends and family to try the place, you can see it at the corner of Olive and Compton, ONE block from the new SLU arena.
Good Luck!

another note,
There is a 70 car lot being built right behind A GOOD PIE on Locust that will be opening in the spring, so while parking is a bit challanging right now, it won't be in a few months. A back entry will be added as they have a nice back patio alreadey in place.

Had lunch here last weekend. Very reasonably priced pizza and cooked in 90 seconds. Pizza was great and definitely prefer over other DT options. Not really sure who to compare to. Very cozy atmoshere too.
had dinner with my wife here last night. definitely some tasty pizza to be had here. can't wait to come back and try the other ones on the menu. had the antina and they definitely didn't skimp on the toppings. i like the atmosphere. the bartender said the lunch business was faring very well and from the looks of the packed house friday night, their evening business seemed to be good as well. he also mentioned that pappy's is doing great lunch business. said they pulled 300 customers during lunch the other day with the line stretching out the door... i'm guessing the wachovia crowd is really helping out. good to hear some businesses are thriving.

I was looking for this place on the forum the other day and couldn't find it. . . dang it. Oh well, we'll be there in the next week. Can't wait.
It's at 31st and Olive. Here's the exact location in Google Street View: http://is.gd/fgZX
I had dinner there a couple weeks back with a friend. It was my first Neapolitan pizza experience and I enjoyed it. Warm ambiance.
Went to Pi a few days ago and was pleased to find a place that matches up to the recently closed Pizza della Piazza in Chicago-Style authenticity.

Sorry, I meant that I couldn't find the name of the restaurant by looking through the retail forum, and I couldn't remember the name.
I dropped by last Friday to see what the hype was all about.
I ordered the lunch special - fresh pizza margherita and mista salad.
The mista salad (lemon + gorgonzola + pear) was absolutely delicious. Typically, I abhor salads; however, I could eat this salad everyday.
As for the pizza, it was piping hot from the brick oven (really cool) and the sauce was incredibly fresh and light yet full of flavor.
All for $7.95. I'm not complaining.
I agree with everybody in that the ambiance and decor was warm, inviting and perfectly suited for their neighborhood-pizza-joint concept. The vintage bicycles on the walls were a nice touch.
Lastly, the service was excellent and the staff checked on us multiple times to ask us if we were enjoying the meal. I can definitely respect a place that works so hard to please the customer.

Me and the fam are headed to The Good Pie tomorrow, then off to Chuck E Cheese to play some games with my boy.
This must be a look at the old site or something, because the info is across the bottom. It’s once again that time where a restaurant opens anew and wows us with a website astonishingly void of information such as phone numbers and sample menus. Though at least the address is there.

I work in Midtown and finally made it to The Good Pie. Um, how many ways can you spell "delicious?"
A friend and I stopped in around 5ish. We were the only people there, but I think it was super-early for dinner (We were there that early because of plans for later in the evening). It really is a homey, cozy place, and we felt SO welcomed. We started with a salad that included greens, pears and gorganzola. It was largish, and we had a bit leftover to cleanse the palate after our meal.
Our main course was the mushroom pizza. Fabulous! These were real mushrooms, not those canned mushy things you find on Domino's and the like. The crust was thin and obviously homemade -- you could argue that each pizza was like a snowflake in that each crust and shape was a bit different. It had those great air bubbles that char just a bit on top. So good!
After dinner, I had cinnamon gelato and my friend had some coffee-with-a-side-of-ice-cream thing. We both finished with huge smiles.
What really made the meal was our server; I wish I would have gotten his name before we rushed out. He was really nice and explained about the pizza baking process. He was attentive and filled our water glasses almost as soon as they ran out. He wasn't annoyingly "up your ass," though. He just... knew. And when he wasn't attending to us, he was having friendly banter with two other members of the staff. Really, really a friendly place.
It will only be, oh, a week before I go again.
** Added: Oh, I forgot to say that it was REAL cheese on the pizza. None of this provel hash.

Now that's a smart dad. Get some good authentic stuff before you take the fam to Chuck E. Cheese instead of eating the cardboard they call pizza there!
