The Globe-Democrat building is rebranded as a carrier hotel:

The ground floor retail appears fully occupied!

A building that houses servers and usually very few employees.

It has been a carrier hotel for several years now, but it looks like they are marketing it more now. Hopefully they can do a facade cleaning and perhaps some window replacement.

jambo, do you know if those photos were taken from the Elder Shirt Lofts?

^Sick.

I noticed last time I was down there they've updated some of the signage and clearly made a push to lease up the storefronts. It's definitely looks better than it did just recently.

Apparently they are seeking to get the building on the National Register so hopefully we'll see some further upgrades... looks like they are going after start-ups, etc.

Glass is being replaced in the window frames. Compare the old glass on the third row of windows versus the windows above and below in the photo:

The Globe Building is in line for about $34 million in improvements to triple it's employment numbers and attract more tech and geospatial companies to feed off of Square's coming office and the NGA development.
A representative of the owner, Globe Building Co., said the latest renovations to the building at 700-720 N. Tucker Blvd. would cost $34 million, and could pave the way for more technology companies to become tenants in the old newspaper headquarters, citing the nearby development of campuses for Square, in the old St. Louis Post-Dispatch building, and the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, in St. Louis Place.

Doug Rasmussen said Globe Building Co. has already attracted a pair of tech companies, including Maxar Technologies last year. The publicly tradedspace and intelligence company based in Colorado took 10,500 square feet in the building. T-Kartor, a Swedish-based geospatial firm, houses its U.S. headquarters in the Globe building.

TREX is full (Geosaurus, on 4th floor, can take smaller tenants) and more Geospatial companies would like to move in so The Globe Building is a great space and has larger footprints available.

I came across this rendering recently.  Perhaps some sort of TREX-Globe Building partnership is in the works?

That image is an ebersoldt + associates rendering from 2016 I believe.  I don't think it reflects any current project details.

Have there been any mummers concerning what the plan is for the future of the Globe Building's first floor?  I know that there was recently a video posted in the Nat Geo topic, but the details were a little sparse besides the fact that they are renovating the upper floors into modern office space.  All the retail spaces on the street level have been vacant and boarded up since they were looted back in June.  I am curious if the building owners were already planning on not renewing the leases and the looting expedited that process or if it was a response to what happened.  In any event, I feel like boarded up storefronts are not the type of look that will attract potential office tenants and they will want some sort of business (coffee shop, sandwich shop.... something) to increase the appeal of the building.

Have there been any mummers . . .

Forgive me, but this made me think of a tradition I first discovered in War and Peace, and which has become a parade in Philadelphia. Apparently it's still done in something like the traditional way in Newfoundland. (Or was somewhat recently, anyway.)

It's a little related to Wassailing. There's elements of it in Halloween and Mardi Gras. And you know what? It'd be a great way to raise venture capital. Or, well, a fun one, anyway. Maybe not very effective, but fun. Send a mummers parade through a neighborhood with some fat donors. Have them toss out business plans like Mardi Gras beads. Threaten to stay and sing until venture capital and sufficient drink are provided.

^ Thanks for positing,   the article also gave a nice overview of regional/submarket vacancy rates and market rates as well as Square's forthcoming move downtown.   Nice to see Central corridor vacancy at 6% and some of the highest square footage rates.   Hopefully that  trend will continue and you will see a nice bleed off of companies moving downtown as they expand and at same time the Sandcrawler as we as Foundry phase II office space moves forward to provide space for those who want to stay in the central corridor.

There's a $5M building permit application submitted for the 7th floor offices. Anyone know who it's for?

Are they still needing to build out the SCIF space in it? Could it be that?
