moreWashington University and City Hall are partnering on what they’re calling the “Sustainable Land Lab,” a contest that will hand over four vacant lots in the city’s Old North St. Louis neighborhood for two years to whoever can come up with the best ideas to put them back into productive use. Organizers are expecting to hear from artists, designers, entrepreneurs, urban farmers and more.
The competition will open this weekend, at a Sustainable Cities conference at Washington University. Initial proposals for one of six empty lots are due in December, and will be winnowed down in three rounds of presentations and judging. Up to four winners will be chosen in April and will get a two-year lease and $5,000 in seed money.
Five grand and a two year lease on one lot... Not a ton of incentive, but I suppose better than nothing?
