My mom called me this evening (7/19/06) about the crazy storms that blasted through the metro area tonight. 80 mph winds!?! Anybody out there take any photos of the storm or the aftermath?

I figure this thread could turn in one all encompassing database of weather photos for nerds (or somebody could delete it)

Thanks in advance :smt023

I'll take of the aftermath tomorrow. For now, I have these. No color editing either. The sky was weird looking. We didn't get much rain here though, but I think East St. Louis was hit pretty bad.

I've got a couple of nice pics of the sky right after the storm from Arnold. I left my camera there by accident tonight, so I'll post them tommorrow. I don't have any of the lightning, but it was truly amazing. I've never seen anything like this storm, and I'm a weather nut.

Tower Grove Park has very heavy damage, and Carondolet park is destroyed as well. All of the medians that have trees in them also have many trees damaged and down. Some of the very old trees that Tower Grove is known for are down. Will change the scenery for sure.

This is off topic, but

How is everyone managing? I understand there is much damage and power outages throughout that area. I read in the newspaper, an AP story, that it could take 5 or 6 days for power to return.

My power went out, but thanks to my laptop and dial up I found something to do.

On Wednesday, my power went out at 7:30 pm; it was restored at 10:40 am the following morning. I had a broken window as a result of a tree so no A/C on Thursday (still John Blaze-hot) but I consider myself lucky compared to some other metro area residents.

I was fortunate enough to not have lost power on Friday. I sincerely feel for the people in North County and other areas who lost power and had damage on both Wednesday and Friday!

Sadly, I was too hot and bothered to go out and take any pictures on Thursday...

I was lucky. I never lost my power, but right across the street, the darkness still stretches for block after block. And a tree fell on the spot where I usually park my car, but for some reason I didn't that day.

No power outages Downtown, but we did get structural drama.

There was some other amazing damage in my area. One of the walls of the handball courts in FP was ripped off. One of the big lamp posts in front of Chase Park Plaza with the multiple bulbs was bent over.

Reviving this thread ahead of a MODERATE risk level for severe weather today. Fairly rare for moderate, let alone such a large area.

Knowing history, stay away from the airport.

That was a wild storm last night, it looks a war zone in my neighborhood. The worst part of it was the golf ball sized hail which shredded everything and left our streets and sidewalks covered in a mix of leaves, branches and dead birds.

Time to file an insurance claim.

The air quality is very unhealthy. Be careful doing strenuous work today. A mask helps, though are those illegal now?

^ It's really hazy and, if you look at GOES from yesterday, you can see that the source was dust kicked up down in TX and OK and transported all the way up here by the storm.

March has certainly come in like a lion.
