How are folks voting on Prop R (STL Community College's)? I'm leaning on voting "yes".
I voted yes today.
Quick side bar...I love that St. Louis County gives you the ability to vote at any polling place. My polling place is Glenridge Elementary in Clayton but I voted in the Chesterfield Valley at a firehouse a few blocks from my office.

I didn't find anything compelling about the Prop. They need money to "meet demand" despite demand being down significantly. Demand in health programs is high while it's dropped off in other areas; fine, but overall it's down. Also, if there are upgrades to facilities needed, then I would be more comfortable considering a tax that sunsets after the improvements are made. This one is perpetual. Third, tax revenue is already increasing year over year by virtue of increased assessments, well beyond the rate of inflation. This is a 40%+ increase in the tax rate to compound that. Finally, even if they trot out arguments about the pandemic, they are receiving tens of millions in aid for that purpose.
Oh, and they delayed the proposition from the April ballot in the hopes of low voter turnout, which generally helps these propositions. This costs more than a half million extra dollars, not exactly a good sign of stewardship of their already increasing tax dollars.
Big no from me.

Can anyone describe why they voted Yes? I was looking for a reason other than "it's not a lot of money" (which to me wasn't really a reason). All of the squishy reasoning SLCC offered seemed to actually have objective evidence that run contrary to each point. And, their tax revenue is already growing besides, with few results to show for it.
At any rate, it appears it'll win. I've just not been able to hear a good reason from anyone voting in the majority.

Advanced Manufacturing Center set to open in 2025 at STLCC
https://www.bizjournals.com/stlouis/news/2023/08/18/advanced-manufacturing-center-set-to-open-in-2025.htmlConstruction has begun on the $61 million Advanced Manufacturing Center on the Florissant Valley campus of St. Louis Community College that officials say will prepare students to excel in the high-tech skills required to make various products.
Students will receive hands-on training in state-of-the-art labs, preparing them for careers in manufacturing, engineering, technology and technical trades, said Jeff Pittman, chancellor of St. Louis Community College. The three-level, 96,000-square-foot building will feature flexible learning, training and equipment spaces that can be converted to meet the needs of local industry, Pittman said.
Construction began Aug. 7 and should be completed in December 2024, for use starting in early 2025. About 100 community college, business people and elected officials attended a ceremonial groundbreaking ceremony Friday. The architect is JEMA, the construction manager is NAVIGATE Building Solutions and the contractor is Kadean Construction.
Advanced manufacturing is the use of innovative technologies, tools and processes to make current and future products. Examples include robots and automation, high-performance computing and 3D printing.
The Advanced Manufacturing Center is among six construction projects under way or planned at the community college system’s four campuses. Dubbed STLCC Transformed, the projects are being funded from voter approval in 2021 of Proposition R, a property tax levy with a goal of modernizing facilities to meet today’s regional workforce, job training and retraining demands, the college has said.
The new building will enable The Boeing Co. (NYSE: BA) to expand its 15-year-old Pre-Employment training program with STLCC that provides the aerospace giant with a pipeline for future hiring. The program trains candidates to work as aircraft assembly mechanics. Boeing has hired 1,214 program participants as of last month.
