i watched a couple of episodes yesterday. i agree with what somebody else commented that they probably have permission to access many if not all of the properties shown, and the drama of the "break in" is largely manufactured for the tv show. with that said i thought it was a fun watch, sharply filmed and edited and had alot of nice cool shots of urban st louis throughout.

I've only seen a portion of one of the episodes but I was a little bothered that Coffey referred to the abandoned ballroom on Olive in midtown as a really bad part of town (or something to that effect).

I've always thought North Broadway would make a good studio city/film/TV district.

Cinespace in Chicago is a growing studio with numerous stages in a similar building like those found on N. Broadway. Several TV and film shows, like Chicago Fire, have been shot at the large studio.

^ yeah, that would be cool.

Would a Saint Louis police drama called Saint Louis Blues be to hokey of a name?

It could be about an older cop and then a younger apprentice who used to play for the Blues hockey team.

Haha I'm skeptical but this seems like it'll bring better attention than Salvage City... even if it turns out to be our version of Jersey Shore.

If the latter happens, it's going to be a horrible show, no doubt. But the thing about that kind of horrible is that it will capture the attention of a lot of young people who unfortunately like horrible stuff. And if somehow that casts the STL region in a more positive light than those people have typically thought of it, well, in a really stupid way, that's a good thing.

Salvage City actually seems to damage the reputation of the city. But this "reality" show has the possibility of bringing the region positive vibes even if it's dumb.

I want to see a coolfire reality show called "Live at the Aventura" providing a captivating look at the those young professionals with good credit and questionable taste.

I don't see how anything positive can come of this show. Maybe the rest of the country will get a crash course in the alternate meaning of the word "hoosier" when one of these spoiled brats calls another spoiled brat out.

Seriously can anyone think of anything truly positive about St. Louis that might be broadcast in this show? They'll go to crappy interchangeable bars and listen to the same crappy DJ music that can be heard at every other d-bag club in America.

It sure doesn't sound like they'll be spotlighting anything unique about St. Louis.

But you see, that IS the positive. Not everyone cares about the uniqueness of a city. Those bars and these shows and the audiences that watch them exist because a lot of people are extremely satisfied by generic crappy d-bag things.

There are TONS of these people in LA, NYC, Chicago. People like us think of those cities and others for the unique parts of them. But a lot of people think of them for the plain old "cool" stuff. Having people associate St. Louis with that plain old cool stuff really isn't the worst thing.

It's not cool to us. But it will be cool to some people, I promise.

I guess everyone has their own individual TV programming tastes, but I'd take "The Hills" St. Louis over Salvage City......any day.

At least with "The Hills St. Louis", it has the potential to attract younger "OMG" people to St. Louis.

Salvage City.............not so much.

It has the potential to attract brick rustlers, terra cotta mask bandits, copper thieves and junk collectors.

It's a cool name for a St. Louis police show. Personally, I hate police shows except Law and Order, SVU and COPS, but I'd watch a scripted St. Louis TV police show. Police shows do not show all of the real dirty lowdown stuff they do in addition to the good.

What we need is a major, long-running hit series like "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia."

It'd be cool to have, and I've thought that before, but they really don't do much to glorify Philadelphia in that show other than it being a good (or once good) show and being set there.

well, "The Hills" is about horrible, vapid rich kids acting like selfish a**holes in glamorous Hollywood Hills. based on the articles i linked, Coolfire wants to film horrible, vapid poor kids acting like selfish a**holes in slightly-less-glamorous (at least according to anyone who is going to identify with this show) St. Louis. i can't imagine the show attracting any quality people to the city, if it attracts anyone at all. i can, however, imagine it (along with Salvage City) further harming the city's image. For example, does anybody think the show "Hard Core Pawn" has attracted investment or residents to Detroit? does anybody think it's improved Detroit's image? i guess i'm just an old curmudgeon. and i'm not trying to pick on Coolfire specifically, but "reality" TV is out of control these days. even what used to be the educational channels on basic cable have replaced 90% of their educational programming with this mind-rotting crap. so i can't really get behind it just because it's a local studio.

When I heard this the first thing I thought of was the cop show on TNT or some other basic cable outlet a couple years ago with Jason Lee called "Memphis Beat".

Most of that show was shot in the New Orleans area with the occasional stock footage of Beale Street or the Mississippi riverfront. It made me wonder how many people thought creole cottages were common in Memphis :)

So I guess that begs a question. If a show is set in St. Louis how important is it to be mostly filmed in St. Louis?

Just wondering, does anyone else watch this Them Yo People show that premiered a few weeks ago? I first heard of it recently on the Ryan Kelly Morning After radio show on AM 920.

https://www.facebook.com/themyopeople

It's on KDNL (our local ABC affiliate) channel 30 Saturday nights at 10, and it's a lot like that zany Worldwide Magazine show with Pete Parisi from the 90's. It's pretty well-done, and a lot of the segments are fascinating. I recommend a watch if you miss shows like WWM.

I'm really disappointed with Missouri for ending the tax incentives in the state, although not entirely surprised. However there's talks that some cities are bringing up the idea of local incentives for films.

I'm interested in pushing the idea of creating a bi-state tax incentive (St Louis and the Metro East) , but I'll reiterate further, once others weigh in. What do you think the complications might be in creating such an incentive? Do you think people in the St Louis area are interested?
