Just found this on the PD's website. looks like some new blog and today's topic is Metro. everyone's homework for today is to go and write a well thought out respone. So far everyone kind of wants it, which is positive, but they want door to door service from home to work to day care to the dry cleaners to the store.... not realistic.

I'd use it if it were available out where I live, but since its not I have to drive. I like taking Metrolink into downtown and to Belleville. The closest station is the Delmar one, usually park there and hop on the train. However, I would avoid Metro taking it at night unless there is a Cardinals game or big event.

They really need to get that cross county line open!

Someone said in there that people complaining about not having a Metro stop in their own neighborhood should move to one. Well, we all know it's not that simple, and that many people don't choose a neighborhood based solely on its transit options.

That said, I do think local government could do a better job of encouraging transit-oriented development, offering incentives for people who will live next to a Metrolink stop, or a bus tranfer station.

I live in South City now, which should definitely be serviced by light rail, so I would not think I should have to move in order to get service by Metro. Just because some idiots in Mid-County have to bludgeon these transit projects to death with their NIMBYism doesn't mean the rest of the area should suffer for it.

I found reading the responses quite funny. Most of them would 'love' to have MetroLink, but I'd be curious what their song would be when it would run through their backyard. Most of the West Countians/St Chuckers have a short memory regarding the early planning that would have included them. They wanted no part of it and now it will likely be a longtime until they are considered again. Hindsight is 20/20.
