Happy to hear American is testing out OKC before announcing daily service next year. :D

Out of all the routes Southwest cut, OKC had the best numbers and if timed well would make for a very efficient connections to London. STL would be the most comfortable connecting option to London from OKC when compared to Chicago and Baltimore-Washington. Shorter first trip, less crowded airport, longer second flight for best rest.

Same, was checking it everyday too.
I would love for American to pick up OKC, TUL, LIT, etc., think those would be great feeders for LHR. And they can use smaller regional jets unlike Southwest.

Of course they’d rather feed their own flight out of Chicago but some travelers would much rather go through customs in STL than Chicago. The only hitch in STL (until renovations) is getting back to T1/security after customs.

^I expect the D concourse will open back up soon enough, and that will make it easier. Renovation is underway presently for the A/D move, right? When is that supposed to happen? As soon as it does we'll get a taste of both the linear concourse concept (since C/D/E are effectively all one big, happy line anyway, albeit a bent one) and a happy memory of what once was, since I expect the whole thing will be pretty hopping.

That would help, but what I’m talking about is when you exit customs you exit the building. Unless there is a passageway back up to the East Terminal I’m not aware of.

You could go thru security in T2 and then walk to C when it reopens.

There is an inside walkway from customs to T2 baggage claim. Then you can take the elevator or stairs back up

It would be nice if there were a dedicated security checkpoint to clear international arrivals directly airside, as there are in some larger airports. (And as there used to be in C, where arrivals were trapped airside anyway.) But yeah, the map shows an indoor hall that leads back to the baggage claim at E. I haven't used it personally, so I can't say it isn't blocked, but it's on the map. All this will be better with the new concourse, but I'm genuinely looking forward to seeing United, Delta, Frontier, and the charters in C and D. I'm not sure why this wasn't done as a cost saving and passenger convenience measure years ago. You could even reopen the lounge at the end of C as a general purpose pay to play lounge. Or for Delta, since they supposedly expressed an interest in having one.

Looks like Southwest is going to start putting in lounges. Not sure they have room for one here until the new terminal is done but I could definitely see one in it.

^Maybe they could just partner with the Wingtips lounge that's already there. Or as C and D open back up maybe Wingtips could move to the old end of C Ambassador's club. That looks to be 5600 sqft, which I think might be larger than the current Wingtips. They'd have to negotiate, but the upper level C space is probably the nicer space, but it's less useful for where Southwest is now, so . . . maybe? It'll be interesting to see where Southwest goes from here, now that they're becoming more and more like a legacy carrier. Maybe one of these days they'll realize they can't go all 737 anymore. (Man, I have to wonder what would have happened if they'd bought a few used DC-9s rather than 737s.)

C’s lifespan is pretty short now to be worth much investment into opening something new up.

Also latest word is British won’t run out of C. It will run all out of T2 like Lufthansa. Still time to change but that’s the way it’s leaning at the moment

^Didn't mean to suggest a big investment, just a spruce up of what might be a reasonably usable space anyway. Not really sure what it looks like, just guessing the configuration is useful, since it was a lounge, and the square footage is right. But yeah, it wouldn't make much sense to invest a lot in it right now.

Flying out tomorrow, I've been hearing about delays due to controller shortages but I haven't heard anything regarding TSA staffing. If you've flown recently, did you have any delays there? I'm PreCheck but my SO is not.

They couldn't take the weight, so the checked luggage didn't fly.

I’m confused why that would be the case though? Was there an issue or some kind of cargo that was overweight?

Seems like they should have known that was going to happen and thrown it on the other plane that left at 230.

Spirit leaving STL. Last flight January 6th.

I am under the impression there will be other cities closed by them as well.

It’s becoming clear to me that the failed merger with JetBlue was more about keeping those two afloat than anything else.

If I understood correctly, a sensor in one engine was broken, so they had to debate its power and thus how much weight they could take.

So basically two broken planes in town at the same time.

Net loss from Spirit's discontinuation is two flights a week from STL to Ft. Lauderdale. Eh, no big whoop. With as bad as that company's been managed, I'm amazed Spirit's still flying as it is. If they're still flying people a year from now, I'll be damn surprised.
