Why are those Frontier to Cancun flights suspended?

Suspended would typically mean it is seasonally discontinued since leisure travel to Mexico is low in the summer, but Frontier is trimming all of the fat from their schedules and eliminating a ton of flights that do not originate from Denver. I wouldn't expect it to be reinstated. They're not doing particularly well at the time, so they're cleaning house and getting back to basics, so to speak.
Service on Frontier has NOT been cancelled for suspended.
Service is available on Frontier direct/non-stop to Cancun from STL on Saturday and Sunday's
Toronto, Canada AIR CANADA
Punta Cana, Dominican Republic USA3000
Cancun, Mexico FRONTIER
Puerto Vallarta, Mexico (starts March 31) FRONTIER
Ryan Air and Champion Air flies service to the Caribbean, Cancun and to Europe on Charter flights

Service has definitely been canceled. Frontier's own website reports it will end (seasonally) April 30th versus their otherwise announced 6/1 date, and remains unbookable.
Puerto Vallarta will also not see service. As of right now Kansas City has Puerto Vallarta service but that too will have a good chance of being cancelled and already operates under seasonal restrictions. Frontier only has 3 remaining Mexican routes that do not originate from Denver.

USA3000 also flies to Cancun (through MLT)
One of the Champion/Ryan Air Caribbean destinations is Montego Bay Jamaica (through MLT)
Can you point to a site which lists either Champion or Ryan Air flights to Europe? Champion's site says to use MLT, and MLT shows no European destinations from STL. Ryan Air is also used by MLT, but still MLT shows no European destinations from STL.

Champion has lost the MLT/WorryFree Vacation contracts (as well as NBA). NWA is now absorbing the operations in-house. There are no Euro charters from St. Louis. Champion has never, andcouldn't do it, and Ryan Int'l doesn't either. Ryan Air (as found in Europe) and Ryan Int'l Airlines, who we're talking about here, are entirely different entities if that's where the confusion is coming from.
Unfortunately, I think it is safe to say that F9 will not be resuming the non-stop to CUN. They have been experiencing financial troubles and were forced to sell several A318/319 aircraft. Overall, many of their routes that don not involve DEN fail (look back at what happened in BNA-they had service to Florida which was a complete fiasco with poor yields). Hopefully they'll be able to restructure and resume this route and possibly expand at Lambert.

b777stl, do you know what kind of yields Frontier has going to the east? Do you think that maybe there are more possibilities for east routes from stl, instead of den? Obviously, their loyal customer base is in denver, but if there's more of a demand for east coast travel from stl than there is from denver (and since united probably has that covered), maybe a couple routes east from here would work.

While it would be great if they added some east coast flights, they are currently trying to consolidate all their operations to Denver in an effort to cut costs.

CASM and RASM would be a more appropriate figures to look, opposed to yields. Frontier doesn't have a significant presence on the east coast. Right now they need to focus on getting back to basics, consolidating operations to Denver, cutting unprofitable and questionable routes to trim the fat. They're taking a rather aggressive approach in doing so, which makes it very unfavorable that STL would see any expansion from them in the future.

Wrong. We just flew Ryan Airlines from STL to London Heathrow direct / Nonstop in November on Apple Vacations.

That link proves that Ryan Int'l Air exists, but is there a place we can find charters to LHR? I searched Apple for departure/return dates over several weeks between STL-LHR and none come up for me. If there are semi-regular flights to London, that would be a great option next time I go over. I hate JFK layovers!
I booked our Apple vacation with a travel agent. I was pleasantly surprised to be on a non-stop/direct flight from STL. That always is nice.
The plane was full, but many of the people had flown to STL from other cities to connect to the London flight.
Apple Vacations does offer European vacation packages for many city departures. I have flown out / connected in other cities for other international flights with them. So I imagine it depends on availability, regional response/bookings, etc... from where the flights originate from.
If you search their website, you can find Europe vacations from STL - some are connecting... I think you just have to find the right destination, date, time, etc...

Here is what I see currently for Apple from StL. I'll keep my eyes open for Europe...but I wish they'd occur with some regularity again like in the old days

No doubt the airline exists, but that was not a regularly scheduled charter.
There is nothing in either Amadeus or Sabre that shows any Euro charters from STL at this time.

Is AA getting rid of the mainline flights to Austin, TX? I am planning on going to Austin on April 4th and come back on April 9th. The nonstop on the 4th is aboard an MD-83, but the return is on an ERJ. I looked at other nonstops to AUS for other weeks though June, and all nonstops from STL-AUS are on ERJs, no more MD-80 or 83s for nonstops anymore.
Frontier's been running an ad in the P-D this week that says we can fly one way to STL for $139!
It's cheaper than driving, and faster too!bonwich wrote:Frontier's been running an ad in the P-D this week that says we can fly one way to STL for $139!

What is the difference between a ER4 and ERD, more seats? I always thought they were Embraer Regional Jets and they all look the same to me, other than those Canadian Regional Jets. The CRJs have a small versions 100-200 and larger 700-1000 versions with more seats. STL-YYZ on Air Canada Jazz is always a CRJ-200, though I remember back in 2000 Air Canada flew a DC-9 from STL-YYZ.
I am wondering why they got rid of S80 service to Austin and replaced it with ERD. Was passenger loads from STL-AUS not that good for a large plane like the S80? Also, its nice to see AA add some more B757 to SFO and SEA at the expense of DFW and O'**** losing one daily B757 flight. I still would like to see a STL-Heathrow flight or some other international destination, any news about this?
Any new news with AirTran?

ER3 is a ERJ-135 with 37 seats
ERD is an ERJ-140 with 44 seats
ER4 is an ERJ-145 with 50 seats
In the CRJ category, 100/200 models are the earlier/smaller models, and the 700+ models are largely different.

I have heard that STL-AUS wasn't producing the premium loads they were hoping, and they therefore cut the route. I think its a question of when, not if they will resume mainline service. However, SAT on the other hand performs better with AT&T traffic.
For the past three years, SFO and SEA have been cut back in the winter and brought back to 2x daily, however I am surprised we got 2x 757 for both. For the summers of 2004/05 we got 3x S80 to SEA as it was mostly cruise pax and Boeing employees. Unfortunately, we did not get an additional frequency to SAN which usually goes to 2x in the summer
months.
Other St. Louis based-crew would love to see LHR service commence. AA will be ending all service to LGW (Gatwick) on April 13, and I doubt we will get Heathrow in the near term. Continental recently purchase a slot for a rumored $209 million for 4 slots (see article link). Lambert will need to offer a great deal of incentives for AA to put that kind of money on the table. I keep hoping that we will get one of ORDs frequencies transferred. We currently have the feed to support reasonable connections in the afternoon and evening hours. However if we get the service, I can guarantee that it will be on board the 763 not the 772, as ORD/BOS-LHR is in a testing phase with some 763s to see customer reactions. The plan is to shift some London service to 763s, and shift the 772s to new international routes that a 763 can't support.

I haven't taken a direct international flight out of STL since maybe 2000 (STL-LGW may you rest in peace).
Does the customs/immigration hall down in the belly of the C concourse still look like 1977 barfed all over it?
