The Cancun route seems really obvious they would do it when they could. Since Southwest mentioned they were wanting a good look at international opportunities here and getting gates that can be used for International arrivals. Depending on what time that route departs and arrives, they could get a number of connecting opportunities here.

Curious as to how much more Southwest could grow here. In the coming weeks they will have their summer schedule up with their new systems in place. One thing I notice travelling is as much as they don't use the terms hubs and banks, there sure seems to be those here when you look at times of arrivals and departures. There could be a good amount of further growth considering they can't build up in other midsection areas for connections due to capacity issues.

^ I am know they changed Des Moines to fly here instead of Midway because of their capacity issues. It would be nice if more of that happened and we get more connections. I would think if our interntional spots grow that they would route more of that through here. With Orange County-John Wayne getting a bunch of flights axed (including ours) I also wonder if they will fly from here to a different LA airport like Ontario. Especcially since they weren't being axed for lack of demand reasons.

Since we seem to keep track of like sized cities getting europe service.

PIT is getting Wow Air service. That means they have to fly through Iceland but it is pretty cheap. Not anything amazing but I thought it should be noted.

Although, I am not 100 percent sure Cancun even has a slot limit. Its biggest argument is that if they let in more LCC carriers to Mexico they can bring prices down. Oddly enough our only flight to CUN is Frontier not legacy but I would take a Southwest flight there.

Someone who knows more about this stuff than me can read through this. It is interesting, though some is blacked out for confidentiality reasons. It is the answer of SW airlines link.

https://www.regulations.gov/document?D= ... -0070-0050

It also talks about Mexico City slots but those wouldn't be for us.
Also, it wants more gates at the LAX international terminal and thinks it is getting screwed out of those also.

Anyways, if you have a little time it is interesting to see some background into this stuff.
Can't add much but I do believe US and Mexico open skies agreement is now in full affect. I'm sure both sides sees positives and opportunities.

You can also add Wichita. They changed that service to here for connections at the same time Des Moines. STL is a major connection point also for Tulsa and Omaha SWA flights.

+ Omaha, and Little Rock. The Omaha-St Louis flights are always oversold. A lot of people in Omaha prefer St Louis to Midway.

Condor going to PIT. Now have 3 different Europe Airlines... I find that a little annoying.

With the exception of the Condor flight, none of the other routes are feasible from STL due to the distances vs. the aircraft being used on the flights.

^good point. But still annoying haha. Also I know they are giving incentives but I don't know how common that is or how much a normal one is at this point.

I would really like to see what airlines Lambert is courting, and if they are close to a deal.

I can envision bridging Terminal 1 Concourse A & C with some new gates along the centerline axis with a new security access/customs/immigration hallway where concourse B is. Instead of separate security for A & C you have one grand hallway coming off the ticketing hall. After going through security you hang a left for Delta/Unitd/Air Canada, or you board an international charter/flight at the new gates in front of you built for both international departures/arrivals, or you hang a right for American. You would maintain the distinct history of Terminal 1 but develop a single concourse more inline with Delta's Detriot hub, just not as long with half the gates already built.

This frees up demo of D for future short term parking structure and or consolidated rental facility between Terminal 1 & 2/E. Maybe with an outdoor automated people mover connecting all three similar to what you see at MSP for elongated concourse C believe. Would be a long narrow parking structure but you would have airport road/metrolink on one side and a people mover parallel but on the opposite side. You could add and build out in phases, less parking and a people mover first and or more parking with people mover later in order to generate the parking revenues to finance.

Not sure what your referencing. Document about future or past terminal plans and or a document outlining airline negotiations, specifically flights with international carriers?

Airlines and air service development representatives often meet with many carriers/airports even for far fetched and commercially unviable service. Sorta think of it like professional networking even when you aren't actively seeking a new opportunity. People move around, conditions/situations change, and it's an easy way for people to seem busy and feel important when in reality time and scarce financial resources are devoted to silly pie-in-the-sky.

Lambert is soliciting bids for a non-airline operated lounge in Terminal 2.

I don't see how they have room for a club there. That is a pretty small space. I wonder how it would work with no airline attached to it. I see it explains it somewhat but I just haven't seen this before. Maybe other airports have it.

I'm not very familiar with Terminal 2, but I can't imagine the Airport would be seeking bids without a space in mind.

There are a small, but growing, number of non-airline affiliated airport lounges in the country. Most are locations of The Club Airport Lounge. Admission is available on a pay by use basis or via lounge networks set up by Priority Pass or Diners Club.

I think where they are putting it is currently storage. I actually was looking in that area the other day because the door was open. It just seems really narrow. I guess we will see what happens though. Hopefully it attracts even more Southwest service.

Maybe near the new international gates - maybe this will be used for incoming flights on British Air or Congor (or other)?

***update: This is a good step precursor I believe. I m reading that all British Airways US cities have/require an additional partner lounge at their entry/exit points for their OneWorld Customers and First Class/Business Class Partners. So let it be.

PostNov 16, 2016#2696

and a little more info: Space is 1994 sq feet. Must cater to all airlines in Terminal 2 (at this time that is all arriving SWA Airlines Pax - and all international arriving flights). The space is located at the new international arrival gates E31 E33.

British Airways / OneWorld Airlines require ALL airports of entry and departing passengers worldwide to have a common lounge for passenger usage. hmmmmm

This would not be a partner lounge... that would be an Admiral's Club.

Any BA flight would likely arrive at Terminal 2 but depart at Terminal 1 to allow for airside connections from AA flights.

I don't think this is being done to lure an airline, more so just to provide business travellers with extra comfort.

In addition to Greg's point Pittsburgh/Allegheny county have worked in a collaborative manner to attract and retain young people and support entrepreneurship, start-ups, etc.

The paper pushers in St. Louis have been more concerned with TIFs relocating existing big box stores between nearby municipalities, building an IKEA, and a silly tram system no one will actually ride.

This may not be what the overly exuberant STL promoters like hearing, but at least PIT has worked with the hand they've been dealt in the last 20 years, attracted new businesses, pentetrated growing industries like health care rather than buried their heads in the sand and focused on sports and glory days long lost.

Again another slam on St Louis. Your posts are very frustrating and troll-like.
