^Nope. A bunch of born-and-bred St. Louisans, remembering the Old Days at The Arena. Blues vs. Black Hawks, ca. 1985.

Those were the days.

As a life long hockey player and middle school/high school football player, I will say that there was much more education on good/legal checks in hockey than anything I received in football. With hockey I think the education at a young age is much more standardized. We were required to watch educational videos showing all these horrendous hits and injuries from the 70s/80s, watching the spine snap back and seeing a guy with a metal box around his head for the rest of his life was terrifying at age 12. The "big" hits along the boards are actually very safe, the scary injuries happen when you are 5 feet from the boards and either hit your neck on the boards or slide into the boards too fast.

Additionally I think the size of the athletes and the head gear are a huge difference. Hockey helmets have smarter designs and really work to brace impact whereas football helmets are just like heavy coating around your head, if anything just add more stress on neck and spine. And look at the difference in weights between the players. Average nhl player is 200lbs; nfl is at 260 and 2.5" shorter.

Also, yes, there needs to be education and boundaries. But I'm not one to argue about taking all risks out of sports. Yes, you might get hurt, and if this concerns you then don't play. But the overall pros outweigh the cons by a long shot, I think.

St. Louis bidding to bring global hockey tournament here in 2026
The St. Louis Sports Commission and St. Louis Blues have put together a coalition to bid to host the 2026 International Hockey Federation World Junior Championship in St. Louis. The championship, known as World Juniors, is an annual event that includes 10 teams competing with players under 20 years old. The event is typically held Dec. 26 to Jan. 5.

“These are all the future stars of the NHL,” said Chris Zimmerman, president and CEO of business operations for the St. Louis Blues.
Zimmerman, along with Blues Chairman and Governor Tom Stillman, are among co-chairs of the organizing committee seeking to bring the 2026 World Juniors to St. Louis. Other co-chairs include former Blues stars Brett Hull, Keith Tkachuk and Wayne Gretzky, as well as St. Louis Cardinals President Bill DeWitt III and St. Louis City SC CEO Carolyn Kindle. Alex Cavallini, a goalie who has competed for the U.S. women’s national hockey team, and Steve Cash, a St. Louis native who has been part of the U.S. sled hockey team, are also co-chairs.
The 2026 World Juniors will be the first time the U.S. has hosted the event since 2018, when it was held in Buffalo, and just the fourth time since 2005. USA Hockey, the national governing body for the sport in the U.S., will select the 2026 host city.
St. Louis was one of three finalist cities, along with Buffalo and Pittsburgh, to host the 2018 World Juniors. Zimmerman said he believes St. Louis has developed maturity in its reputation as a hockey town and has strengthened the facilities needed to host the event since it made the 2018 bid for World Juniors. Major hockey events hosted in recent years include the 2017 Winter Classic, 2019 Stanley Cup final, 2020 NHL All-Star Game and 2023 USA Hockey Disabled Festival. St. Louis is also to host the 2024 NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Regionals and 2025 NCAA Frozen Four.

Awesome.

Can we not title threads with BJ headlines through? World Juniors 2026 is plenty.

Or just put it in this much longer thread that already exists for the IIHF World Juniors…
