I hope it doesn't. Our large corporations should relocating in the CBD not an industrial court... (My company's large regional HQ here is located in an Industrial Court)The Mayor wrote: ^ Unfortunately that is no longer on the table as far as I know. Though it may come back with this acquisition.

^ Agree, I think you have a ready made tenant for BPV phase III corner office building and or Cupples X.
Looks like we aren't in the top 3. KC, Raleigh, and Indiana. But we are an alternative to be considered if the three finalists are deemed unsuitable. Not sure why they would set a top 3 if they don't know if they are suitable.framer wrote: The USDA is looking to move 700 jobs out of the Washington DC area. St. Louis should be all over this.
"USDA said it is conducting the relocation of the two agencies for the following reasons:
To improve USDA’s ability to attract and retain highly qualified staff with training and interests in agriculture, many of whom come from land-grant universities. USDA has experienced significant turnover in these positions, and it has been difficult to recruit employees to the Washington, DC area, particularly given the high cost of living and long commutes.
To place these important USDA resources closer to many of stakeholders, most of whom live and work far from the Washington, DC area.
To benefit the American taxpayers. There will be significant savings on employment costs and rent, which will allow more employees to be retained in the long run, even in the face of tightening budgets."
Other good details though in this article.
Such as.
Then last week, the agency reached out again, giving the St. Louis bidders 24 hours to provide supplementary information specifically on potential sites and incentives.
To Rubin, that not only meant that St. Louis was still in the running, but that those two categories — site options and incentives — were the weak spots in their original bid.
In making the initial proposal in the fall, Rubin said they understood the agency wanted to move by fall 2019, which meant it would be unlikely any new construction could be completed in time. The USDA now said it prefers new construction, but with a "swing space" that can be used until any new buildings are completed, Rubin said.
Rubin said USDA was given "probably four or five" additional locations within the city and county, including some near existing research institutions. He declined to identify the sites, but said some are projects already under development, allowing them to present the USDA with renderings of the finished projects.

Big news today from Benson Hill Biosystems. They will build a new HQ building at 39 North and expand to 300 jobs. A big win for the region's ag-tech sector. I can see them expanding past 300 folks eventually. A few details from the PD:
"It (Benson Hill) has been out of space for some time at the nearby Helix Center incubator, owned by St. Louis County, where the young firm began growing. When it started, the firm was mostly in North Carolina's Research Triangle area, another hotbed for innovative companies. Crisp said the company decided to shift its employees to St. Louis to take advantage of the area's plant science talent and infrastructure. He's been commuting between the two regions for years, but he said now he'll be living about a mile away from the new office.
'I might even walk to work,' Crisp said."

For what it's worth, I'll take a company (and these 300 jobs) with the potential for massive growth over those 500 USDA jobs...

Would've been nice to have at Cortex.
But still very very happy!

Awesome news. There is a 39 North thread around here somewhere. Anyway, it really is time to start building the Metrolink line that will run up to this area from Clayton. Was it the Daniel Boone?
Apologies if this was already covered, but it looks like Edgewell Personal Care (the consumer products company which was spun-off from Energizer a few years ago) moved its headquarters from Chesterfield to Shelton, Connecticut earlier this year, probably sometime in January.
I guess they kept it pretty quiet. Sorry to see the metro area lose another Fortune 1000 company.

^Any idea how many jobs were moved to Conn/lost here?
Saw that Edgewell announced their purchase of Harry's for $1.37B.

Not sure. But it seems that it was within a couple months of a change in the company’s CEO.
Also, North American operations will now be taken over by the Harry’s guys, so some of that function also won’t be here if it hasn’t left already.

TD Ameritrade floating the idea of expanding in St. Louis. Could they be one of the companies likely to move downtown?

That would be nice, and is news to me. They laid off over 1,300 here when they bought Scottrade. My guess is they won't be coming downtown, however. They already have space in Town and Country in Maryville Centre. Anyone know if they still own the old Scottrade HQ down at Manchester and 270? If so, it'll probably be there.SeattleNative wrote: TD Ameritrade floating the idea of expanding in St. Louis. Could they be one of the companies likely to move downtown?

I love these small-ish companies most probably have never heard of let alone know where they are located... turns out this one is in the old complex on Manchester where Wal-Mart was before decamping to Maplewood.pmbender wrote: Local media company Polarity just bought Oni Press:

Worthy read from NPR on the USDA jobs currently up for grabs.
(FYI, Tapatalk did put this link into a "Podcast" form, but if you click the text it will take you to the article)
Kind of glad St. Louis isn't in the running anymore as it seems this is a ploy by the Trump Administration to gut scientific research and positions at the organization.
I think STL will do a lot better with recent expansions involving Benson Hill and Esri (and others, like maybe TD Ameritrade) that have the chance for longterm growth and success here.

What we have here right now is way too valuable to disrupt for jobs that aren’t really going to be a net plus for our area. I agree with you what we have going on now is great.

Not sure it's been discussed on this forum, but it seems there's been a fair amount of rumbling over GlaxoSmithKline's STL presence relocating to Omaha in the near future.
I am not turning away any jobs, let alone high paying jobs in STL. I would be happy to have the USDA jobs.

Omaha is a nice city however thinking GSK would be foolish to leave St Louis there’s so much good going on here.
