Surprised no one has mentioned Benson Hill filed for Chapter 11. It should have been clear to anyone with eyes that its 1.35 billion valuation at its SPAC IPO was fraudulent.

^Yeah, and Evolution Metals, mentioned a few posts earlier, is supposedly worth $6 billion at it's founding.

Pivot Bio, a Berkeley, CA based agtech firm is looking to move its headquarters from California to somewhere in the Midwest.

They currently plan to move two hubs; a global headquarters and a new development, research, and operations center. They are looking at multiple locations in the Midwest and are not sure if both new hubs will be in the same city.

Pivot already has a 48,000 sf production center in Hazelwood that opened in 2023.

Would be pretty cool for STL to be able to pick up something like this imo.

This may have been discussed in the past, but I thought I’d relay this information (no idea if accurate). Spoke with an Edward Jones employee (works in the corporate office)  this past weekend. This individual is pretty convinced US Bank is buying EJ. This is a strong rumor within the corp. office apparently. So much so, this individual is looking to leave EJ for fear of the looming layoffs that could ensue should USB buyout EJ. (Is currentlyvery happy & does not want to leave)

This seems feasible considering EJ had a recent organizational restructuring. This would be a huge loss for STL should the rumors come to fruition. Let’s hope not!

From someone at USB;

Idk would be a weird buy since USB is top tier with really rich people as its investment clients and Edward jones is the Walmart of investment world

USB did announce a strategic partnership with Edward Jones in Q3 2024. It could be a continuation of the alliance strategy or this could be what caused a simmering rumor.

That USB employee comment doesn't make sense to me. If they've got one segment of the market wrapped up, why wouldn't they expand into other segments through acquisition?

US Bank is conservative when it comes to lending.  I think this is also why when the housing market crashed in 2008 (?) they were not really effected.

It is not uncommon for a strategic partnership to lead to a merger of some sort. I’ve heard about this partnership, and after speaking with this long time employee, I have my concerns.

Asking from a place of ignorance. How would a sale of Edward Jones work given its staff/retiree ownership model? Is it a managing partner decision? Shareholder vote?

Ed Jones is not a publicly traded company.

Whether it’s publicly traded has nothing to do with shareholder voting.

EJ is ultimately a LLLP. We don’t have its partnership agreement but it would be strange for the GP to have the ability to sell the company without the approval of the majority of the LPs. The LPs are the brokers and the retired brokers.

Yeah, I was going to say I thought it was somewhat employee owned.

Realize it's not a St. Louis based company anymore, but shocked no one has mentioned the Charter-Cox transaction. Hopefully doesn't cause too big an effect on the STL corporate office.

Am aware that Edward Jones has been trimming up their expenditures operationally. Also, they're getting deeper into alternatives, which is beyond the 'Walmart' labeling. Otherwise, haven't heard of this rumor yet; may just be a rumor after all.

Union Pacific to acquire Norfolk Southern for $85 billion, pending approval. Expected to be finalized by early 2027.

There is apparently potential that this deal will result in new investment and traffic in Chicago, St. Louis, Memphis, and New Orleans- where UP and NS tracks cross paths.

After yesterday’s not good news for Six Flags and CEO replacement, Reddit and the roller coaster forum are buzzing with guesses of what happens next.

https://www.wkyc.com/article/entertainm ... 08ba309cec

The main theme on the forums is selling off the stand-alone water parks and other in-park things. But lots of buzz about St. Louis being chopped in a next wave of cuts.
