It will be interesting to see if this ever happens.

Cody Johnson defiantly plunked down a pack of cigarettes next to his glass.

"I plan to smoke that after a couple beers," he said, sitting at the R.T. Weiler's bar on North Main Street, a few blocks from St. Charles City Hall.

There could be more smokers in St. Charles than the South Side, but that would be a pretty close call.

I don't think this will pass, either St. Charles City or St. Louis.

Three points:

1. Cities within the County, like St. Peters, should be in favor of such legislation before the whole county. Bottom-up over top-down.

2. The original proposal included the casino, which would be wholly against any such mandated ordinances. It would be to their detriment as they lose players to Maryland Heights, just as the Queen lost their players to Lumiere.

3. That commission leader should know better than to "call out" the aldermen as weaklings if she wanted to get her positions enacted. If she can't speak to them dispassionately, then she shouldn't be working in pubic capacity.

I agree on all points. It sounds like the coalition is wise to work for change in St. Peters first.

I recently quit smoking after 20 years or so. I am pretty happy about that because they are just plain bad for you whether they cause your death or not. In saying that however I think anyone that wants to legislate smoking out of existence is a fascist. You guys should mind your own business, and I really DON'T care if it bothers you when someone is smoking around you. It bothers me that people want nanny states exist, and yet I don't call on the government to crack down on your existence do I?

You will never have a utopia guys, and the more you try to force your will into reality the less happy people will be. You may make yourself feel better but you make all the people doing the things you don't like feel like sh*t. That breeds hostility, and that is never a good thing. It is just a core reality to the human experience.

Looking down on people differant than yourself and calling them "hoosiers" certainly doesn't help things either.
