Architects have been picked:

St. Louis-based Lawrence Group will work in partnership with Milwaukee-based Hammel, Green and Abrahamson (HGA) on the project, which will include a new hospital, ambulatory care center and academic support space located in the immediate vicinity of the current hospital.

^The architecture firm - HGA - has done some impressive and prodigious work in the health care space, including this beauty prominently featured on their website:

^ Nice. I recall someone asking how much $500M might get you.... it looks like that project was $380M. Probably unfair to compare too directly, but that might give us some kind of idea.

^ unfortunately they also designed SSM's St. Clare out in Fenton which, like the rest of Fenton, looks like puke.

Perhaps related, it appears SLU has acquired the Missouri Belting Building, which the previous owner attempted to have torn down last year without success.

NextSTL speculates that this virtually assures it will be torn down.

I won't be too up in arms if it's used as part of the hospital expansion.

Stumbled upon this nice interactive campus map tool for SLU. It also shows the properties owned by the university (and how much open land is around the Med Campus). It appears to be completely up to date as it shows the Belting Building being green space (so demolition will be happening I assume).

^They're good looking buildings, but passing them almost every day I've started feeling like demolition is a kind of pity. SLU just isn't going to bring back those milk bottles. I don't think RatFag has done them any favors either.

There's some good news though. If the Pevely building on the corner is the only thing in the middle of a vast wasteland, hawks and falcons hang out there more often. I see them up there looking pretty frequently surveying for food. It'd be much neater if they weren't sizing me up to see if they could eat me... I would assume purple martins and other big open approach birds could be happy there as well given the right accommodations.

well, it also shows Pevely being green space, so let's just hope they're not on the map because they're not currently in use.

Is that the old Armory on the right? I didn't realize it was right next door to Desloge.

In that picture the current site of the promenade from the Med School to the Doisy Research Center appears to be a rock quarry. Anyone know when they filled that in? Or if it extended to Chouteau? Kind of makes you wonder how deep the supports on Doisy go.

^Doisy's not on top of the rock quarry. But the rock quarry is the reason there's a giant gap/no-mans land between Doisy and the next building south of it along that side of Grand.

Thanks. Couldn't find any info easily on the quarry...always wondered about the reason for that green space as well.

There's nothing new here, but it is nicely written. Gives some numbers.

New 9,000 square foot stand alone cancer treatment center. Nothing new on SSM planned $500 million replacement hospital other then the aggressive schedule of having it completed by 2020. I can't imagine that scheduled holding considering the complexities involved.

^ Is this like the equivalent of a drive-through restaurant but in the cancer treatment world? What the heck? 9,000 square feet? Can they even fit an MRI in that facility?

Hopefully that's a typo and there's a missing zero. Siteman Cancer Center on WashU's campus is 107,422 square feet.

it's gotta be a typo. no way a 9000 sq. ft. building can hold their entire radiation oncology department.

^ Maybe it is being reported correctly. Biz journals reporting that they will break ground next week and have it ready by August. Sounds like 9,000 square feet in terms of a construction time line but could be mistaken if tilt up, pre fab is involved. But even with tilt up an August timeline seems awfully aggressive to do the finish work on 90,000 square feet. Especially medical space.

Another thought, this came relatively announced til construction was ready to start. Could this be a temporary facility in reality until the new hospital is built? Essentially, build some space for the machines only. I also wonder if the design, drawings and contracts on a $500 million hospital be a lot farther ahead then what is being put out there.

http://www.bizjournals.com/stlouis/morn ... ation.html

Construction is expected to be complete by August. The Lawrence Group is the project architect.

Probably just a renovation of an existing space.
