Curbed writes an impassioned plea for the case to save the SS United States, as just this week, SS United States Conservancy is in court fighting their dock landlord over the hyperinflated docking fees they're now facing...which could spell the liners doom and send it either to the blow torch or to the bottom of the sea.
The ship is sound, retaining 94% of its structural integrity, thanks to it's military-grade spec build construction. It is basically a blank palette for commercial redevelopment, as the interior was long ago cleared out and all asbestos mitigation was handled then. But yet, decades now, the search for a permanent place to moor the ship and turn it into a world-class national historic monument, as well as a commercial mixed-use venture is ever elusive.
