Not sure if it is still in the plans, but the building behind the new construction is starting to come down. IIRC I read these were staying, evidently not.

The western half will be remaining, but the eastern portion has been gutted and prepped for demo for a while now.   They were just waiting on final approval from the Preservation Board and were on the agenda (with CRO recommending demolition being approved) last night.

This has been the plan for quite some time... not sure why there's sudden surprise or frustration that it's finally happening?

Speaking of giant, ugly video screens, is this one still in the works?
As of a few days ago it looked like they were starting on installing the screen.

Demolition is well underway.  The exterior walls are basically gone and you can see the underlying support structure now.  Not sure if it's metal or concrete (hard to look when driving in traffic on 64) but it's now coming down fast.

As for the video screen - there is none.  What may have looked like a giant video board is actually just vertical metal sun shades.  The SLCC sign is up so it's not like there's still more to do there.

I'll have to drive by and get a glimpse...I used to drive by there almost every day for work, but I've been working from home for the last few months.  I did see the non-video screen sometime in the last couple of weeks.  I wonder what happened; maybe just more expensive than anticipated.  Either way, doesn't look horrible.

Curious.   That section of the building has no windows behind it, it was clearly built for a display to be there as shown in the renders at announcement.

^ I drove by it last night.  Definitely no display, and there don't appear to be plans for one either.  Kind of wavy metal shades with a big STLCC sign.  Not a bad looking building in my opinion.  Would be significantly worse with a giant television on it.

Actually they had plans to put windows there, but they had to make a compromise because it didn't fit in their budget... About the screen, I don't think you would spend extra to put a screen up when the panels look good in the first place.

I could see the screen serving as advertising. Maybe even advertising they could sell. Might be a space that'd pay for itself. It'd surely have to be a spot with some demand.

I kind of like the lightning affects of the sign at night. It's eye catching from the highway.
