EDWARDSVILLE --The new American Red Cross building to be built here will open two years later than originally projected, but the nonprofit is expecting the extra time will be worth it.
Project manager Arthur Deist said it's not so much a delay as an extension of the design period, so the group can incorporate new technology and build "green."
"Right now, the new schedule will have us finishing construction in summer 2011, moving in immediately thereafter," Deist said.
The 170,000-square-foot building will house 500 employees and consolidate the American Red Cross's regional operations, as well as its national testing lab. The cost of the building has not yet been determined, pending final design, but previous estimates have been in the area of $50 million.
