WHERE'S THE BEEF?: In Clayton, apparently. Ruth's Chris Steakhouse is set to open in the prime lobby-level location at One North Brentwood, just down the street from Morton's of Chicago, a unit of another well-known steakhouse chain.

The city was keeping the space open for a first-class restaurant operator, and Ruth's fits the bill. The restaurant was originally on 11th Street in downtown St. Louis. Both restaurants are in fairly close proximity to Fleming's Steakhouse at Plaza Frontenac. Guess it's all the low-carb rage.

I remember their location in downtown fondly, until they had that dispute with that jailhouse being built next door about 9 years ago, which ultimately made them leave that location. It was sad to see them go, but their steaks were great, but pricey. Great to see them coming back to STL. :)

I was just reading through some old posts and came across this. Is this still going forward, Arch?

Yes, it goes forward more everyday. But yet, it doesn't seem like they are actually accomplishing anything. I suppose one day I will walk down there and it will be done.

NAI DESCO assists Ruth's Chris Steak House in their return to St. Louis

After leaving the downtown market in 1998, Ruth?s Chris Steak House is returning to St. Louis thanks to the efforts of a new franchise owner and the NAI DESCO retail team.

Bacchus LLC, the owners of the St. Louis territory franchise, contacted NAI DESCO following successful transactions within the NAI network. Bacchus was looking for a site that could draw from a large daytime and evening population as well as an area that could support higher ticket items.

The new location, at the Shaw Park Plaza in Clayton, fits that bill. With a large number of employees from surrounding businesses, Ruth?s Chris will be able to offer lunch as well as dinner. An outdoor patio is also planned.

The restaurant should open in mid-January 2006 with a second store planned for sometime in 2007. Contact the NAI DESCO Commercial retail team if your have an ideal restaurant location.

Should have moved downtown. Clayton already has Morton's.

I think that they left with too much anger towards the city too move back downtown, and frandkly with the way they were treated at the time i don't blame them.

Mortons is a couple blocks away. So I don't know how much competition there will be between the two.

Also there is very little down near that side of Clayton, so I think it's a good location for the place.

Anyone have any info on when/if it's opening? One of the earlier posts cited a press release that said mid-January. It's not listed on the RC website though.

I can't believe the owners of the Shaw Park Place allowed those RsC awnings on the exterior of the building. They belong at Six Flags. The top floor of the property is asking $30/ sf...

Although I have never eaten at these restaraunts, I have heard that they are quite nice, albeit expensive. Is there a price difference compared to Ruth Chris, or is the quality much better at these places?

Personally, I only patronize restaurants in the city, based on prejudice against the county.

I went there last wednesday, two days after it opened. Wow. This is a classy b****.

They do a great service/presentation. They use top 2% cuts of PRIME. That is to say they only use the best 2% of the best rated meat by USDA. I got a 12 oz ribeye for 25 bucks and it was easily the best steak I've had. It gets expensive because sides are extra (though easily big enough to share-got2 split them 4 ways) and wine is not cheap (and my buddy decided to go big on this particular night, decimating my fun money for the month).

Our waiter had defected from Dierdorf and Harts at Westport, also told me that Flemings would be closing soon. I did not know if this was just grab ass, to trump the competition, or true...

One of these used to be downtown, but was situated apparently in a basement like space along 11th...I believe a space occupied by a cafe now.
