The bridge in front of Vandervender on Kingshighway is getting totally replaced this summer and it will be closed for a year. May god or whomever you believe in have mercy on your soul if you take Kingshighway from south city to 64 or cwe for work. Your option is Hampton which will be a mess. I hope the city and MoDOT work together for a good balanced detour

Which bridge are you referring to? The one over the tracks just south of I-44?

Correct

I know this thing has been talked about since 2011 but other things kept happening. The city had to wait for MoDOT to finish most of the work on the bridges over 64 by Sarah and that whole thing by new Shriners hospital.

Are there renderings of the new bridge? I really wish they would demolish those car lots/gas station right there. If a N-S streetcar were built, Kingshighway would be one of the best options, in which case, this intersection would be great for mid- to high-rise development along the route. That's a ways off right now, but I've just always fantasized about that happening.

All of that work should be done by the spring according to this
http://www.modot.org/stlouis../major_pr ... change.htm

That project is a great example of public private partnership. $18m project and $9m paid for my washu/Barnes

6 lanes (wider then the current 6) and 5 foot sidewalks on each side. Also some work is being done to realign shaw for better access to mobat.

The skate park is moving to a currently vacant lot at the corner of Morganford and Osceola, with a sponsoring skate shop going into the building just south of the lot. Clearing and some earth movement started before the weather got cold.

I'll be happy when all these bridge/overpass rebuilds done during the last decade are complete.

-I64 mega project
-current I64 FPSE rebuild and corresponding overpasses
-Grand railroad overpass
-Jefferson Ave railroad overpass
-Jefferson Ave bridge over I64
-the above mentioned Kingshighway project
-the Ellendale Ave bridge over River Des Peres

It seems like some major road going north and south in the city is being worked on.

"also, I assume it still is the plan to demo the building east of O'Connels?"

Lets create more parking in a sea of parking! simply insane. Though I think the area is in a Preservation Review district per the city's map:

https://www.stlouis-mo.gov/government/d ... eid=378300

I hope it is denied by the Preservation Board.

I cannot understand how bifurcating and realigning Shaw creates better access to MOBOT. Because Shaw jags across KHWY, people have a hard time getting there??

It is indeed in a Preservation Review Area. If it's too scary and unsightly to have a vacant brick building and junkyard at the entrance to one of the nation's greatest horticultural assets, then redevelop it. Don't jack with the street grid, raze a solid structure, and pave it all.

I guess their thinking is that being able to turn left on Shaw when going south on Kingshighway is important...but I think it would be better to encourage people coming from 44 to MoBot to get off at the Vandeventer exit instead. Shaw still has train tracks running across it between Kingshighway and Vandeventer, and I can just see a big lineup of cars all the way to Kingshighway waiting for a train to pass. And trains do still use these tracks with some frequency, I've had to wait there quite a few times.
And I agree that the current design is messed up, leaving O'Connell's an island in a sea of parking and tearing down a perfectly sound building for MORE parking is insanity. Oh, and that junkyard actually belongs to MoBot - it's old paving and landscaping materials and such.
