Sigh . . .
Uh, did they stain the brick as well? It doesn't look like paint...chriss752 wrote: ↑Oct 20, 2020Seen on my LinkedIn today, a building in Sunset Hills is getting the gold glass removed in favor of typical gray.

I work in that building. All of those gold windows were in horrible states of disrepair. And apparently they cost a buttload to replace. They painted the brick (really more like cinder blocks). I think the whole place will look a lot cleaner. There's also a smaller sized mega church being built on the south side of this building.
That said, the whole office park is depressing a bit. There are zero sidewalks. Even coming from Watson coming into the place. Or on the drive from Lindbergh going west. It's pretty harrowing as a pedestrian to walk to lunch.

That's the same Century Electric what built the Foundry by the way...
It's a tragedy, but that building was butchered long before that current curtain wall was added. Will have to see if I can find a pic of it pre-1985.

^Lord I hate that reclad. Makes it the second ugliest building downtown after only the police headquarters. The view coming out of Union Station is simply dismal.
^Ha, funny that you mention the Police HQ. That building always reminds me of government buildings in the planned capital of a Central Asian republic.
This isn't a reclad obviously, but another International Style building in that same area. This building was at 19th and Olive, kitty-corner from the recent CITY destruction. It was demolished in the '90s, and has been a parking lot ever since. There were a few more like this along Market and Olive that would have made for a nice Modernist district:

Built St. Louis-Aloe Building
The parcel where the Aloe Building was, and the STLMPD HQ, had the same owners. I think Kellwood built that hideous building, but not sure atm. I know A.G. Edwards had offices there for a while, up until the city/police dept. bought it.kipfilet wrote: ↑Feb 10, 2021^Ha, funny that you mention the Police HQ.
