Just a quick heads up...

Rachel Ray, the Food Network star, visited St. Louis in her new show "Tasty Travels". St. Louis was only about the 5th or 6th city featured on the show, which is in its first season. She actually profiled about 12 restaurants or so in the episode. Lots of nice shots of the city and downtown as well.

The next time it airs will be May 23 @ 10:30pm.

Episode synopsis:

"Rachael visits the gateway to the west to show us her top picks for St. Louis. She reveals the St. Louis original, toasted ravioli, at Cunetto House of Pasta. Then, she savors the mouthwatering fried chicken at Hodak's. After that, Rachael travels to Fitz's to watch the city's favorite root beer being bottled and, of course, enjoyed! And finally, Rachael ends her night high above the mighty Mississippi River at Top of the Riverfront, where the food is as good as the view!"

Thanks for the info! I'm gonna set up my TiVo to record it today, so I won't miss it. It's so exciting to see St. Louis featured on shows like this.

But I have to say that if she passed up the opportunity to have some pizza at Black Thorn, that's truly sad.

^ Well, you can only fit so much into one program.

Plus, Black Thorn is a TINY place and kind of a "St Louis' best-kept secret" hole in the wall. Imagine if they got an endorsement from the Food Network ... if would be impossible to get a pizza there after that, what with locals newly "discovering" it and tourists seeking it out because Rachel Ray told them to. Not that the added business would be bad for Black Thorn ... but I think it's the kind of joint best kept as a local "in the know" kind of place. It suits it.

Good call. I didn't think about that. Let them go to Cunetto's -- I steer clear of that place anyway. Not that the food's not good, it's just that I don't have the patience to wait for a table there.

I caught the original airing on Friday night. I got the feeling that her itinerary was put together by the CVC because most of the restaurants were members. Which is probably why places like the Black Thorn were not featured. However considering Rachel's bent towards low cost and value, I felt they did a pretty fair job in presenting the city even if it made our cuisine seem primarily Cajun based.
