Shocking a 96-year old woman passed
I was in London during the Jubilee and that place was decorated for the occasion. Locals were even showing their love of the Queen with small window displays and other things. It was a sight to see that’ll never be seen again in our lifetimes. While she was an older lady, and we will all die at some point, you can’t help but realize that she’s embedded in history forever. She was the longest serving British monarch, oversaw the fall of the British Empire, served in World War 2 as a mechanic, was the head of state during numerous additional wars, was head of state during the time 15 prime ministers and 14 presidents came and went. It’s a huge deal and it does make me a little sad, but that’s life.
Charles has a lot to live up to.

Don’t get caught up in sentimentality over Elizabeth’s death. This ridiculous institution needs to go.

Just want to add these here. Just some of the decorations they had up for the Platinum Jubilee when I was in London back at the end of May. I came home the day of the big event.

When I was there, the Elizabeth line opened. I thought it was convenient that they opened it during the Jubilee after years of being delayed.

I don't see why we have a thread about her on this forum.Bart Harley Jarvis wrote: ↑Sep 09, 2022Don't see the importance of a 96 year old woman, who ostensibly is the head of a family that literally does nothing, passing away, aside from the sadness caused to her family and close associates. "....her legacy takes several different forms." One of these, says classical architect Robbie Kerr of ADAM Architecture, is globalisation and its relationship with how we build. “Speed of communication has transformed the way we can see the world. You don’t need to go on your grand tour to see what’s going on. Within a few clicks on Instagram you can get a good idea,” he says. “The architecture that’s been developed during the Queen’s reign is of a globalised world – it’s not, per se, a local legacy.”

"Monarchies are great because they have often failed and lead to much worse republics" is an interesting argument. Left unsaid is that any genuine democracy in the Global South tends to run socialist and then get couped (or bombed) by Capital until a right-wing dictator is installed.mikenewell48 wrote: ↑Sep 18, 2022The rational case for monarchy
