I noticed this in today's Columbia Tribune:
http://www.columbiatribune.com/news/loc ... f6eda.html

It looks like developers may try to build a mixed use 24-story tower across the street from Mizzou in downtown Columbia, complete with parking, ground level retail space, and about 400 apartments. I can't wait to see the renderings.

I think this kind of condo/dorm with private input is becoming more popular near universities. In Boston, my brother is president of the architecture firm that designed this 17-story high-rise student housing building now under construction tucked behind the YMCA in Boston at Northeastern University.

Here's something similar near the University of Maryland. The story is that the Liquor store wouldn't sell so they built around it. I suspect it's the most profitable liquor store in the state!

A 24-story apartment building with retail and real-estate office space on the first floor was built in Champaign, IL in the University of Illinois' Campus Town district about 6 years ago.

Another 14-story building is going up near by right now.

Although Campus Town is not downtown Champaign, it is nearby.
