everyone is familar with the crowded Johnson Shut-ins, but there are other, also accessible shut ins that are less frequented.
I often will make a day trip out of the Castor River Shut-Ins which is almost exactly 100 miles from my doorstep. There is also a paw paw grove along the walkway...

I hate to advertise these other shut ins too much, but just curious if there were any others I was missing (of course there are). I've tubed the St Francois River through the rapids near the silver mines area too. Just as an aside, the Castor River was pretty low last weekend with decreasing water quality so I would probably advise against visiting this weekend and until we get some rain.
If you havent been to a shut ins but like to relax near/in the water, you are missing out. Just beware that the famous Johnson Shut-Ins can get pretty crowded some weekends. It's definitely worth taking a monday off or something to go check out if you dont want to be bothered by crowds. It's also great on a weekend during the warm early autumn we usually have in Missouri.
