I drove down N. 1st today. Does anyone know what they are doing to the old Mississippi Nights building? It looks as if it is being demo'd on the inside in prep for turning it into something else. Any clues?
the building has FINALLY been demolished. i was starting to get afraid that they were going to do something else with the building but i'm glad to see they finally did what they said they would, i just wish they had either done it nine months ago right after it closed, or allowed the place to stay open for the majority of 2007 if they were just going to sit on it. in any case it's over now.

It could become something REAL cool. At least I can expect that it wont become another concert venue. There are too many other places saying they are going to build a venue. Either way, I hope something nice ends up getting constructed there. Good real estate.
Well, The old Mississippi nights site is now officially surface parking. The concrete curbs are being poured, and the concrete lightpost bases are in place. Such a great use of this land

No more surface parking in all of downtown! This is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever seen!
More parking in Laclede's Landing? Why don't we call it Laclede's Lot and market it as the country's only parking lot with historic structures on it?
How does this stuff get through City Hall?
St. Louis is so clearly decades behind other cities. Its government has no awareness of how a "renaissance" is sustained and built upon.

It's pretty good use, but I have an awesome idea. This would be a perfect place for someone to build an awesome mid-size music venue that feels like a cross between a the intimacy of a small rock club and the quality acts of a major theatre. It could gain notoriety over a few decades as having an outstanding record for booking great shows. It could play local, cutting edge, and mainstream acts and be indifferent to genre. Wouldn't it be great if someone built something like this on this spot? A surface parking lot does seem pretty good, though. What used to be here?

You can never have enough parking. Parking lots are great.

If they tear down Sundecker's, I'll really be pissed. (For the loss of the building, not necessarily the bar)

I always liked Sundeckers, but since I usually only went there to grab a drink or two before a Miss. Nights show I have had no reason to frequent it lately.
unless I want to have a pre-drink before sitting in a parking lot

I'd guess the only business Sundecker's gets these days is from construction workers, although there are so many of those that they might be doing better than ever!

Talking to the bartenders and managers at Sundeckers, they say Pinnacle wants them to stay as "local color". That's why the bathrooms got renovated earlier this year.
Why they chose to tear down Mississippi Nights and Harpos but leave Sundeckers is beyond me. The only thing I thought is maybe down the road they're going to open a small music venue in the casino (like Alton Belle and Ameristar).

Sundeckers is safe. In fact, I believe they just extended the lease.
Any other members on here play any instruments? We could get a forum "recreation" of Mississippi Nights and stage it in the parking lot. I have a pick-up truck we could use as a stage and a couple of LED flashlights for lights. I play washtub bass (no joke), blues harp, bari sax, and nose flute.
