ha! Jeff I wonder the same thing... just face it, we have a large sector of Idiots... they are everywhere, and we just have to learn how to deal with them.

After it took me 20 minutes to get from Maplewood Commons to Brentwood Square this afternoon via Hanley and Eager roads, however, I'm beginning to think the worst.
I remember the news was stirring the same type of hype when the pope came to visit. "Avoid highways, carpool, plan an extra hour in your commute, etc."
highway 44 was practically empty.
Avoid Eager if you can. You could have cut through the industrial court in < 5 minutes. But with Hanley ramps closed everyone and their brother is on Eager.
People aren't going to know what hit them come Jan 2nd. Most will be unprepared, and those who are won't be able to do much about it besides carpooling, mass-transit, etc. I don't see many people jumping to buy housing downtown, either. Maybe more renting there, though.
Less people are watching Television, and more people spend time online, and it's not to discuss the same issues we discuss.

Man I still can't get over that people didn't know that 40 was going to close. I am temping out at Talx and they have been talking about the closure in company emails for the past couple of months. Also I know some of the Talx employee's have been asked if they would like to work from home now. Man if I had the chance to do that I would so do it.

True. And I often laugh at and/or ignore the media when they're in full fear mode. But the pope didn't stick around St. Louis for two years either.

And of course, Channel 5 seemed to be the worst offender.

No clue? No vote.
Regarding "Highway 40 is closing?" (Oct. 28): Any registered voter who didn't know about U.S. Highway 40 closing shouldn't be allowed to vote.

^ Oh I couldn't agree more, in fact anyone who doesn't commute into the city in a $50K+ luxury sedan and isn't dreading using public transit or adjusting their work hours shouldn't be allowed to vote.

That letter to the editor is especially brilliant, since the process to rebuild Highway 40 wasn't exactly the most democratic process I've seen.

Does anyone know if they will line the highway with lights?!??? We need more lights on our highways. It's so dangerous from the stretch of the city limits to 270

I think headlights are pretty standard on most cars now-a-days, plus I think light-free is exactly what they were going for on that stretch of the highway.
I want to know if they will expand the trailer park on the south side of I-64 in between McKnight & Spoede. I love those guys hanging in there, surrounded by $1 Million homes!

That topic has been discussed ad nauseam on this forum already in both I-64 and Metrolik threads. I believe the general consensus is that it would be the cheapest way to bring Metrolik to West County, but not necessarily the best.
Personally, what opportunity that I do think we are missing is putting a lid on I-64 along Forrest Park. By burrying the highway we could reconnect the Dogtown with the park. The seperation that the highway creates between the neighborhood and the park makes for a very unpleasant area that is only visited by those going to the Zoo or using the sports fields. The connections between the bordering neighborhoods to the north, east and west of the park is what has made it so popular and successful. I also believe that this would be an economic benefit to the area that could spawn new residential and commercial developments.

^That may be true, but I'd hate to take away the great views of the Park and the CWE as you drive East on the highway.

I had the same visions once, but the issue of security arises. If we cap the highway as to tunnel it, then it would be easy for any terrorist to drive a bomb-loaded vehicle into the tunnel at any time and destroy a major transportation artery and any concentration of people and jobs over the tunnel.
