What's the deal with this place?

It was renovated and converted into an attractive apartment building several years ago, long before it became a citywide trend.

The last couple of times that I've passed it, though, I've noticed the front windows and doors are boarded up. A sign reading "professionally managed by Red Brick Management" is still posted on the front.

I've been out of town a lot this summer- did something happen with this place? If so, will Red Brick renovate it and reopen it at some point?

This neighborhood needs more investment like this. I'd hate to see one of the earlier renovation success stories in the area go by the wayside.

There was a fire in the building a couple of months ago and they moved everyone out while repairs are being made.

^ Thank you for the information. I must've missed this while I was out of town.

This is such a cool building- I'm glad the damage wasn't any worse, and I'll look forward to its reopening.

I got a closer look at the schoolhouse today as I drove past on southbound 55.

It's been about six months since my last post, and I haven't noticed any significant progress. There are still boarded up windows on the ground level facing the highway, but there is a banner with a contact phone number for leasing information. I can't remember, though, whether the banner was up before the fire or if it's a recent addition. At any rate, if there's any progress, it sure isn't evident from the outside.

Just another city fiasco brought to us by Red Brick/Pete Rothschild investment.

^ That's the impression that I get. Apparently he makes many promises and keeps a few of them.

Hasn't he bought several of the buildings around the Ivory Theater (Saint Boniface Catholic Church)? How's that area doing these days?

Aside from one new business, the Ivory Coast Bistro the rest of his buildings have seen no new investment. The Rectory next to the theater which was supposed to be a high end restaurant still sits boarded up. However the theater appears to be going gangbusters starting Saturday there will be a month long run of a Patsy Cline show.

^ I need to give the Ivory Coast Bistro a try. Isn't it in the building where Kicker's Corner used to be? I'm glad that building was able to be saved.

Rothschild has a lot of work ahead of him. The trouble is, if he doesn't get around to renovating the rectory or the other buildings he's bought in the area, they'll sit for God knows how long. :?

Since the Ivory Theater seems to be working out well, and investment in the area is up, I'd hate to see him sit on these buildings as he has elsewhere in the city. And with the economy on the brink of recession, it's hard to know what to expect from any developer, let alone one with an arguably shaky track record. The Ivory Triangle should be an anchor for Carondelet, and it's an area that's attractive for redevelopment, so hopefully we won't have to wait too long to see more action there.

For what its worth, I drove through there a week or so ago and the blue building at the other end of the trangle from Ivory Coast is for sale. Jump on it folks!

Which building is the blue building? I own a building on the other end of the block across from the theatre and school.

The building is at the corner of Virginia, Ivory and Courtois. The bottom half was painted blue and features a large glass-block window facing the triangle.
