I stumbled across this house by accident and would like to know if anybody knows anything about it. I don't even know the neighborhood. It might be called Kingshighway Hills or something like that. I could not definitively say whether it was a new construction or a major overhaul of an existing building. The foundation looks new and the lack of existing landscaping would lead me to believe it's a completely new structure. I'm not sure what street it's on but it was a couple of blocks West of Kingshighway and a couple of blocks North of Chippewa. There was a sign out front for Killeen Architects.

I don't like how the garage looks in the back, but I like that it is actually using the alleyway, it kind of looks like a big shed. Hopefully with some landscaping and fencing it will be hidden a little better. I like the house though. Wasn't someone just complaining about lack of modern infill in St. Louis?

the garage doesn't look any different than the cinder block sheds all across south city. so yeah, no landscaping and fencing make it more obvious. i'm amazed to see infill that includes a detatched garage to the rear...

Didn't the developer get the memo? Flat roofs don't sell.

I live just a few blocks away and haven't even noticed this. I will have to check it out in the morning. Great find!

I think it's the door on the garage that is weird for me.

Looks like they plucked that hideous shed off the top of the Hardt Medical building at Chippewa and Brannon and plopped it down in this backyard.

Is this a spec home? If so, what's the price?

I know it's not super attractive, but homes like this are popping up in older neighborhoods in places like Austin, Portland and Seattle. While the style is not for everyone, some diversity in architecture in a neighborhood can be good, and it can indicate vitality and dynamism in an area.

Very interesting. The Garcia's own a lot of properties in that area, but they are usually multifamilies. They run a lot of nice stuff, but this is the first new construction they have done to my knowledge. Bravo. What is that exterior material? Cost-wise I would assume vinyl, but it almost looks like some kind of metal. Anyone know?

Just talked to someone over at Garcia Properties and found out the scoop on the building. Its not going to be for sale or rented. The owners of the company actually designed the building to live in themselves. I think they did a lot of design themselves.

I have been in the house and think it looks really cool on the inside. A little modern for my taste but cool none the less. The "siding" is metal, the garage is attached and is huge, I wish i had the garage at my house. To keep with the modern feel they have exposed duck work on the first floor, kind of like what you would see in a loft.

The Garcias have made a huge committment to this neighborhood. Nice to see that they are putting down roots too.

And I agree with CityRes. A bit of variety is good.

Interesting house. Miami is probably my favorite street in the neighborhood too.

Nice thing about Miami is how it's kinda hidden, tucked off to the side. Like you have to know the secret handshake to get there. But still, I gotta vote for Oleatha as my favorite.

Interesting that they are building the house for themselves. I like that commitment to the city and neighborhood. I love the big windows.

Yeah, since it goes one-way, you have to access it at just the right point to drive down it - it's so secluded. Oleatha is awesome too.

I went by and checked-out the new house today. I do like it, but the metal seems awfully reflective, and there's a lot of it. I can't help but wonder how much the next-door neighbors are going to be affected by the glare. Look at the photo of the South and East sides on Killeen's website and you'll see what I mean.

I used to live a few blocks over on Tholozan, the first block of Miami is definitely one of the gems of the area. Am I correct assuming this house was built on the vacant lot on that block?

Well…my husband & I have never been one to do things hoping for other people’s approval. We, together with our family, own a lot of properties right here in 63139, 63109 & 63116. We love the City & go to great lengths to spend our money here whenever humanly possible so it was only natural to build this house exactly where it is being built. We like living close to our properties in order to keep an eye on things & keep a handle on what’s going on in our neighborhood. We love being walking distance from our yoga studio, Tropicana, World Café, Ba Le, Tower Grove Park, etc. Pretty darn awesome. And I must say, it’s a hellofalotta fun to build a house with complete & utter disregard to resale value. We love flat roofs, corrugated metal & spaceship garages so maybe in sixty years when our kids haul our asses to the nursing home, someone else will, too. All joking aside, we’ll be moved in towards the end of the month so feel free to stop by & introduce yourself. We’ll give you the grand tour if you’re interested in that sort of thing. Moon boots optional! :)
